Sugar, a Historical Tale of Woe

Sugar, a Historical Tale of Woe

For this episode, Musufing talks about the stuff Britain was largely built on, sugar. She explores the history of sugar from its raw plant beginnings in New Guinea to it's dark industrialised years that have left a deep gash that still weeps. In honour and recognition of enslaved people from then to now. Slavery must end!!

Mum and Grandma in Jamaica 2015

Mum and Grandma in Jamaica 2015

The central themes of all my podcasts are heritage, history, culture and family. My mother and grandmother are my foundation stones and without them I could not do what I do. From language, Jamaican cooking, amazing stories and jokes, they are my original Miss Pearline, women who traveled from their homeland to work for many decades raising us and making Britain a better place. They also inspired Roast Breadfruit Reasoning as a concept of food, heritage and community.

They both returned to Jamaica in the 90s where they still reside, we are thankful to be able to say. This podcast is from a radio show called FI

WE MUSIK I produced and presented did for 7 years while living in the Gambia, initially for West Coast Radio and then for Paradise FM. I took my dusty microphone etc to Jamaica during granny's 90th birthday celebrations and recorded these beautiful women sharing their stories and favourite songs. Oh and can they sing!!! I hope you enjoy listening to mine and my family's diamonds and pearls

Miss Pearline is a tribute to Caribbean women and women from many nations who left their home countries to build the so-called first world.

Miss P asserts her right to be older, bolder and delivers her stories with added pimento and at times hot pepper sauce!

More sassy senior stories of this powerhouse Jamaican grandma to come
