EP 10 : The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka Part I

EP 10 : The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka Part I

Part I of II of the 1915 classic by Franz Kafka “The Metamorphosis” Join Taylor, Alex & Björn as they discuss what it's like to wake up as a bug, the real meaning of “Kafkaesque” and why George Constanza has more in common with a German-speaking Bohemian novelist and short-story writer than you originally thought.  In the first half of the episode, we dig deep into Kafka’s life and untimely demise. Kafka was an insurance salesman and only after he devoted his entire life to writing did he croak shortly thereafter. In the second half of the pod we dig into the text where we hear the tale of a lowly textile salesman, Gregor Samsa, who after waking up as a bug as an allegory for casual sex, doesn’t think that is a good enough excuse to call in sick to work. Ahh, the early 1900’s. Get all the Kafka you can handle this episode and be assured to sound super smart at your next party!

EP 8 : Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Part II

EP 8 : Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Part II

In Part II of III of Mary Shelley’s 1831 classic, Frankenstein, we cast Anne Hathaway as the part of the monster, Lil Franky Jr.

We hear Ted Danson and Whoopi Goldbergs origin story & smoke too many cigarettes with Thomas Jefferson Hogg. Once we finally dive into the text, we learn about Lil Franky’s origin story. We learn that having a deer-sized brain is great for learning the history of humanity, but not so good for conflict resolution. Ending on a cliff-hanger, this episode has everything, murder, executions by the state, deep regret, origin stories from the monster, and even a Percy Bishy Shelley poem!

    Part I of III

The 1831 Final Cut version! The story of Little Franky Jr & one man’s horrid mistake.

In the first half of the episode, we take a deep dive into the life & times of Mary Shelley, The Mother of Science Fiction, & the product of feminist-anarchist parents. We find out why losing your v/card to a Bishy on your mother’s grave makes you incredibly punk rock. In the second half of the show, we drill down into the text of our first novel-length book & learn why reanimating a Rubix-cube dead guy may not be the best idea.
