    Our guest this week is Emily Davey, recent RPI graduate currently working in the Berglund lab at the RNA Institute of the University of Albany. Having both a personal connection and an interest in myotonic dystrophy since middle-school, Emily discusses her journey of carrying this passion all the way into her research career both during and post-college. She also details her experience in not only being able to applied what she's learned, but also teaching it back in to both high-schoolers and post-docs alike.

    Guest Sims Brar, a third year student in the physician-scientist program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, elaborates on her research on myelination within the peripheral nervous system. We discuss animal training as she uses mice in lab for her particular project, and Sims provides some very helpful insight into navigating her initial difficulties over handling live animals.

    Go on a website, look through projects, and just pick whatever seems interesting to you. Pro-tip from our guest Vraj Patel,  a medical student at Albany Medical College. Starting in research as early as high school, Vraj and I discuss a lot of the early struggles and growth he was able to get throughout his several research projects as well as some habits he picked up along the way that made him both a better student and scientist. If you didn't know how to read a research paper, or even where to start, then this episode is for you, as a seasoned reader of academic literature, Vraj goes through his process of interpreting and analyzing papers.     Join host, Chris Boyd, and Jacob Ancri, a fellow student at RPI studying biomedical engineering, for an inspirational talk about his time performing research for Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences on microplastics within aerosol samples. Jacob discusses many of the obstacles he had to face during a pandemic. However,  he also goes to include what a life changing experience this opportunity provided to him and  that by sharing his story, another aspiring researcher may also have their Bermuda moment.
