Republic Schmublic
In our last episode, we finished on June 9, 68. Nero was 30 years and six months old. He had ruled for 13 years and 8 months. On June 10, 68, while he was still in Spain, The Senate declared the governor of Hispania Tarraconensis, northern Spain, 73 year old Servius Sulpicius Galba, to be the new Emperor. He was the first person from outside of the Julio-Claudian family to assume the throne.

Superb
Unparalleled. One of my favorite podcasts.

Despite their being a couple of Grade A Jackasses, and much to my surprise, this has become one of my favorite podcast. I wrote my M.A. thesis on Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and so I did read a lot of the primary sources they cite. Nevertheless, I’ve learned an enormous amount about this period of history that I never would have known about. I’m now convinced that Julius Caesar was not human.
Gosh! Ray & Cam totally 'Pull a Sulla'
Gosh! This podcast is fantastic.
I am a firm fan of 'The History of World War 2' and the Napoleon Podcast and this meeting of two styles leans to the latter and is wonderfully entertaining. It's informal conversational modus operandi really engages, interests and entertains the listener in equal thirds and the dynamic energy, oft difficult to generate in more monologue driven podcasts, is electric. I heartily recommend this if you enjoy your history in good listenable chunks with a generous dollop of humour.
