    Episode 003 - How to be a PRO-Creator Ft. Javier Sanchez

    Episode 003 - How to be a PRO-Creator Ft. Javier Sanchez

    From this moment on…
    Happy Weekend Eve!! I am honored to have some words of wisdom from one of my good friends, partners, and influencers Javier Sanchez! Me and Javi have a coffee table workbook together called From this Moment On: Personal Reminders for MASSIVE success in school, at work, at play, and in the shower. Javier is a speaker, author, comedian, poet, father and more. He travels the world adding value and providing practical tools to youth and adults alike for living a more intentional and happy life.
    Javier breaks down being PRO-Creator how we can fuel our creativity and intention into three parts:
    * P - PURE
    What you create has to come from a PURE Place.
    * R - RESPECT & Recognize
    Come from a respectful place and recognize the value of what you do and the value in others.
    * O - Be OPEN
    Be open to feedback. Both positive and negative feedback. Rejection is a part of the process. So as a creative, you have to develop a thick skin.
    Side Note: In this episode
    I talk a little bit about having grace for yourself and the creative process. This ish is hard some days and you can be committed but miss the mark. That’s okay. The important thing to remember is to remember your intention and don’t get stuck in the cycle of pity. Be loyal to your creative practice and get back to it when you can, just don’t abandon it if it is fruitful.
    Take a listen and let me know in the comments what being a PRO-Creator means to you.

    Failure is not death

    Failure is not death

    Mourning a “celebrity” does not = lack of “consciousness.”
    And sometimes, the death of someone we feel like we knew, but we never actually touched, triggers pain about the death of people we knew well.
    We are on a brief pilgrimage here, reconciling life and death.
    Love well.  - Bernice King

    These words came from a tweet by Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
    I haven’t had many words to describe how I’ve felt since I heard about the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and the other families they were traveling with but then I read her tweet and it really started to get at some of the thoughts and feelings I had. My heart goes out to those families directly affected and impacted by this tragedy. My heart also goes out to those grieving their personal loss and to whom this may be a reminder.
    In full transparency, Death has been close to me in the last few years. I’ve lost more loved ones than I care to. I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t impacted me. It isn’t lost on me the finality of death and the hurt, sorrow, and pain of those who of us who are left here to mourn. But I do want to encourage you to consider the words of Bernice King, that we are on a “brief pilgrimage here” and if we are still here that we have an opportunity to Love Well. The pain, sadness, hurt, struggle, the failure  you may be feeling and experiencing is evidence of Life. That you are able to feel because you are alive and we have another opportunity to Love more and Love well. Love ourselves, Love our work, Love our family and village. I encourage you to Feel more and feel it to heal it.
    Fuel - How do we shut up and create?
    * Love Well…
    * Our time is Brief
    * Start with loving yourself well.
    * Invest in showing loving yourself.
    * Loving yourself is loving your family, your community, and ultimately the world.
    *  Accept failure–Failure ain’t failure it’s a lesson
    * You have to accept failure in order to begin the process of fixing it or healing it.
    * Everyone who is human has experienced failure. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
    * Failure is a human experience we all go through at one point or another.
    * Have a growth mindset of what can I learn from this “Failure”
    * What to do? Iterate, pivot, Adjust.
    * Failure is not Death it is not always final
    * It’s natural to have emotions related to disappointment. It’s okay to feel
    * Emotion and feeling is evidence that you are alive and get another opportunity to try again.
    * I have failed a lot and will continue to fail. Part of the practice is not allowing that failure to define you.
    * The mistake we make myself included is taking on the identity of the narrative our minds tell us sometimes based on the events and traumas that have happened to us. ‘I got angry, or I failed and now I am a failure.’ Not So! There is a better use of our imagination.
    Peace, Love, and Shea Butter.

    Set it in motion - Audio

    Set it in motion - Audio

    A thing in motion stays in motion... I have wanted to start a podcast for a while now. I have a lot of thoughts and ideas that I have wanted to share but have often been hit with analysis paralysis. Honestly, I have an issue with shipping projects if they aren’t polished and the podcasts I listen to seem so well produced. I also didn’t have the capacity to coordinate interviews, sponsors, and so on. I really just wanted to share perspectives.
    I was inspired by Anthony Frasier whose movement I’ve been following for a while since he was doing Tech 808. Anthony has what he calls an audio newsletter called no pressure and it was just the motivation I needed to hit the button. I was inspired by the raw delivery and the lack of polish that you typically hear on podcasts. That being said it was really good. It literally felt like No Pressure which was the permission I needed to just do it.
    Full transparency, I still sat on this for a while and it’s taking me a lot to hit publish on this. However, after multiple hype sessions with myself, meditations, and some encouragement from village, this morning I got up and said F*©K it, Shut Up and Create and just ship it already.

    This is the first episode of the Shut Up and Create an audio newsletter. This is an audio note to self about getting ideas in motion. This is a new podcast-ish newsletter to hopefully fuel your creative journey.
    I will also be sharing insights from creatives I admire and follow. Stay tuned and bear with me on this journey.
    A BIG, BIG thanks to the many people in my village who continue to encourage me to press go!
    Let me know what you think. What are you setting in motion?
