Wenn Cyber Kriminelle zusammen eine Volkswirtschaft bilden würden, entstünde dabei die drittgrösste Volkswirtschaft der Welt direkt hinter den USA und China. Cyber-Kriminalität und Cyber-Risiken gehören zu den drängendsten Problemen der Welt, denn der digitale und der Cyber-Raum durchdringen unsere Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft komplett: von kritischer Infrastruktur über die eigene Firma bis zur Freizeitgestaltung.

Wir können nicht mehr ohne: Das metaphorische Haus, das wir heute alle bewohnen ist auf einem sehr verletzlichen Cyber-Fundament gebaut. Neben einer Horde von Einbrechern gibt es unzählige weitere Bedrohungen, die das Haus zum Einstürzen bringen können.

Wer als Verantwortungsträger:in in der Wirtschaft den Cyber-Raum vernachlässigt und Cyber-Risiken nicht proaktiv addressiert, risikert den Konkurs der Firma. Die Cyber Performance einer Firma ist demnach genau so wichtig, wie die finanzielle Performance.

Um dieses spannende und hoch relevante Thema zu besprechen, gibt es keinen besseren Gast als Nicolas Mayencourt, Gründer und CEO der Firma DreamLabs Technologies - eine Firma, die seit 30 Jahren an vorderster Front der Cyber-Sicherheit tätig ist mit Niederlassungen auf vier Kontinenten.

I‘m talking of none other than astrophysicist Prof. Thomas Zurbuchen. Till the end of 2022 he was the Chief Scientist at NASA and with that arguably the most powerful scientist on the planet with responsibility over thousands of people and a 8 billion dollar + budget.

Under his leadership, NASA successfully launched the historic James Webb Telescope and landed robots on Mars - among dozens of other impressive missions.

In addition, Thomas promotes entrepreneurs, inovators and leaders to become the best versions of themselves whereever and whenever he can.

Sometimes small decisions are life changing. Urs Hölzle, a Swiss computer scientist, made such a decision without knowing when he became the 8th employee of Google back in the late 1990s.

For the past two decades, he was responsible for building what might be the most impressive infrastructure ever created.

You all know the services that run on the infrastructure Urs developed: Google Search, Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Maps, Google Cloud and many others.

What makes Google's infrastructure impressive is the scale, complexity, and efficiency with which it operates. Google's data centers span multiple continents and are largely powered by renewable energy sources. The company uses advanced techniques, such as machine learning and AI, to optimize its data centers, reduce energy consumption and improve reliability.

In this conversation, I talked to Urs about the early days of Google when it was not more than just a few people and computers in a garage in Silicon Valley. Also we discussed the hiring strategy as well as the learning and innovation culture that were crucial for Google’s success.

We also touched on Cloud computing, the reason why Europe is behind the US regarding digital innovation and what drives him as a human being.

Für die einen ist Bitcoin und Blockchain ein Heilsversprechen; für die anderen eine spekulative Klimakatastrophe. Eine konstruktive Einordnung der bedeutenden Innovation wird mit Sicherheit irgendwo dazwischen liegen.

Viel wird über Bitcoin & Co. geschrieben. Doch oft nicht mit der ausreichenden Differenzierung oder Offenheit, um sich der Technologie gut anzunähern und deren gesellschaftlichen Relevanz zu erfassen.

Für ein solch differenziertes, offenes und fundiertes Gespräch über Bitcoin und Blockchain - befreit von Hype oder Polemik - kann ich mir keinen besseren Gast vorstellen als Prof. Fabian Schär.

Fabian Schär führt das Center for Innovative Finance an der Universität Basel, ist ein ausgewiesener und vielzitierter Experte auf dem Gebiet und ist einer der gefragtesten Ratgeber für Regierungen, Banken oder Leitmedien wie „The Economist“. Zudem ist er Co-Author des Bestsellers und Standardwerkes „Bitcoin, Blockchain und Kryptoassets: eine umfassende Einführung“.

Ich freue mich ausserodentlich, dass sich Fabian für den Sparkr Podcast Zeit genommen hat. Wir haben versucht, eine reichhaltige Einführung und differenzierte Auseinandersetzung mit der Innovation, den oft gehörten Irrtümern und der gesellschaftlichen Relevanz von Bitcoin und Blockchain in einen einzigen Podcast zu packen. Ein Unterfangen, wofür man normalerweise gerne auch eine ganze Vorlesung von Fabian besuchen könnte.

Wir reden über die grundsätzlichen Prinzipien der dezentralen Blockchain, welche wichtige Rolle diese als Basisinfrastruktur für unsere zunehmend digitale Gesellschaft spielen kann, wir vergleichen Proof of Work mit Proof of Stake, tangieren DeFi, Smart Contracts, NFTs oder CBDCs und beleuchten häufige Mainstream-Themen rund um Bitcoin wie z.B. den potenziell klimaschädlichen Energieverbrauch, ob Bitcoin nur etwas ist für Kriminelle und vieles mehr.

Zu keinem Zeitpunkt im Gespräch geben wir irgend eine Art von Anlageberatung oder ähnlichem ab.
