My name is Dr. Kate. I am a movement educator, chiropractor, yoga instructor, and anatomy nerd. I want to bring more balance to people's lives and make it possible for them to continue to do their physical hobbies while staying injury free for the long term. I have a heavy focus in post partum, pelvic floor work, diastasis recti, c section work, and core function. I follow a lot of the principles of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization. I feel that you can fix so much with addressing core imbalances and breath work. This is for the person wanting to learn MORE about their bodies and take ownership of keeping themselves functioning at their best and for the movement professional (yoga instructor, chiropractor, PT, pilates instructor, etc) that wants to learn more on how to help curate a better experience/fix for their patient or client. I am a continuing ed JUNKIE. Take advantage of all of the courses I have taken and continue to take along with clinical practice and distilled down into a more palatable experience.

    Episode 72 - Shockwave Review!

In this week’s episode of Form, Function, and Flow Lab, I talked about my review of Shockwave Therapy.  We borrowed the machine from the wholesaler and used it on patients in the office for over a month. This is why I am so happy that I am able to give you a comprehensive review of what the results were when we used Shockwave therapy for our patients.

Further, with how pleased we are when we used Shockwave Therapy, we decided to take that leap of purchasing one for the office. We will be bringing in the latest machine so that it doesn’t cause much pain to the patients.

    In this episode we discuss:

    [00:36] Introduction to the topic

[4:06] Recap on what Shockwave Therapy is

[5:59] Some contraindications preventing you from using Shockwave Therapy

[7:42] Interesting results while working with Shockwave Therapy

[15:41] What Shockwave Therapy helps with

[18:51] How long would the treatment be

[25:48] Shockwave Therapy and arthritic changes

    [28:00] Conclusion

If you have any questions, you can drop it in the comment section or you can send me a message through Facebook or Instagram. I’d be happy to do another podcast about your questions. Also, if you want me to talk about something specific, let me know!

Episode 69: Mobile Spine = Less Pain

Episode 69: Mobile Spine = Less Pain

In this week’s episode of Form, Function, and Flow Lab, I talked about the Cat Cow pose and when the Segmental Cat Cow pose is for you.

I wanted to talk about this in this podcast because when we do the Cat Cow pose, we stretch the bendiest parts. We want to make each joint move to its fullest capacity but because the body likes to take the path of least resistance, those areas that might be more restricted and have less movement are not going to get the benefit of the movement.

    In this episode we discuss:

    [00:36] Introduction to the topic

[2:19] What I am checking when I ask my patients to touch the floor

[3:58] The Cat Cow pose and what we check

[5:11] The Segmental Cat Cow pose – when is it for you and why is it good for you

[7:10] The difference between Cat Cow and Segemental Cat Cow – how to do them

[13:31] Why the spine is a great place to start with mobility

    [14:59] Conclusion

If you have any questions, you can drop it in the comment section or you can send me a message through Facebook or Instagram. I’d be happy to do another podcast about your questions. Also, if you want me to talk about something specific, let me know!

Episode 68 - Do You Have a Diastasis and Not Know It?

Episode 68 - Do You Have a Diastasis and Not Know It?

In this week’s episode of Form, Function, and Flow Lab, I talked about the in-person workshops we’ve been doing at the office for the past month. One of the workshops is about diastasis recti last weekend.

I wanted to talk about this in this podcast because I have gathered from seeing patients in my office that many people have Diastasis Recti and they do not even know it. They may have struggled for years from low back, and hip pain, and they might have been told that they have a weak core. However, not knowing if you have Diastasis Recti and jumping into core work blindly could lead to more issues.

    In this episode we discuss:

    [00:35] Introduction to the topic

[4:27] The first thing we did during the Diastasis workshop

[6:17] How asymmetries can affect you

[8:47] What to work on first if you have Diastasis Recti

[11:20] What is the next step for dealing with Diastasis Recti

[15:51] Knowing where your weakness lies to help with Diastasis Recti

    [16:54] Conclusion

If you have any questions, you can drop it in the comment section or you can send me a message through Facebook or Instagram. I’d be happy to do another podcast about your questions. Also, if you want me to talk about something specific, let me know!

Episode 67 - What is Shockwave Therapy?

Episode 67 - What is Shockwave Therapy?

In this week’s episode of Form, Function, and Flow Lab, I talked about what is shockwave therapy. I am considering putting it in my office for my patients to use because it is a type of therapy that works really well with musculoskeletal issues, specifically chronic-related matters like adhesions and scar tissues.

I see these issues all the time in the office because I don’t just do adjusting as a chiropractor. I’ve done different myofascial work in the office with my patients and I do get great results with my hands and my tools. However, there are still some issues where it will be more helpful to get extra help from shockwave therapy.

    In this episode we discuss:

    [00:36] Introduction to the topic

    [1:43] What is shockwave therapy

[3:51] Patients’ experience with shockwave therapy

[5:07] Shockwave therapy is not invasive

[6:41] Shockwave therapy helps with better blood flow

    [7:32] A doctor’s experience with shockwave therapy

[9:34] Shockwave therapy for endometriosis, erectile dysfunction, and other issues

    [12:42] Conclusion
