It was a thriller in Manchester as Pep Guardiola's team edged Real Madrid 4-3 in what is possibly a contender for the game of the season in the Champions League. Liverpool, meanwhile, efficiently dispatched Villareal at Anfield ahead of the second leg. The race for the English Premier League title hots up as both contenders won their mid-week matches. Liverpool thrashed a very meek Man United 4-0 while Man City brushed aside Brighton 3-0 to keep things interesting, with six matches to go. At the other end of the table, Burnley began life without Sean Dyche with a win against Southampton, while Everton could only manage a draw against Leicester City.
