     You've probably heard that mortgage rates are expected to stay higher for a bit longer than anticipated. Curious about why? It's all in the latest economic data and decisions from the Federal Reserve. Let's dive into the factors influencing these changes!

     

    Economic Factors Influencing Mortgage Rates:

    -  Inflation: While we've seen significant progress, inflation hasn't yet hit the Fed's target of 2%. Recent data shows it's inching up again, impacting future decisions.

    -  Federal Reserve's Monetary Policy: Early 2022 saw an increase in the Federal Funds Rate, directly influencing the rise in mortgage rates. Although inflation is slowing, we're not out of the woods yet, and this continues to affect rates.

     

     As explained by experts:

    - Sam Khater (Freddie Mac): "Strong economic data has the market rethinking the Fed's next moves, leading to higher mortgage rates."

    - Greg McBride (Bankrate): "The long-term outlook on economic growth and inflation are crucial for mortgage rates. It all revolves around inflation."

     

     When Will Rates Drop?

    Despite the delays, experts like Mike Fratantoni from the MBA predict a decrease in mortgage rates later this year, though not as soon or as dramatically as hoped.
