Know Your Neighbour. It's not asking much. Simple, humane, and we would like to think a logical approach.
Know Your Neighbour is a platform for constructive, but brutally honest discussion on varying perspectives of race relations. We are approaching it in a simple way, by having conversations about it, allowing perspectives that oppose our own and listening to understand. The aim, to know your neighbour.

Hello 2022! This year we kick off with a difference. In this episode we invite an expert onto our platform to discuss the profound effect a simple issue such as lighting can have on our communities. Stephanie Briers; Phd candidate, Urbanist and Transdisciplinary Researcher gives us some insight into the effect lighting can have on the psyche of our communities.

Much of South Africa's infrastructure is still based on Apartheid planning and the issue of lighting is no different. Stephanie highlights these facts and how after almost 30 years of democracy, these issues still linger. The career path she chose was highly influenced by the inequality in South Africa and she made work to make a difference in her own unique way. Have a listen and let us know how your environment affects your lived experience.

    Politics

    Politics

Lets not get political. How many times have we heard that phrase before? It even came up in our WhatsApp group. Is it even possible not to get political?

What are the elements that makes this a contentious topic? So many people want to steer clear of politics because of the portrayal of it on our tv's and newspapers. Is this a real depiction of what politics are about or is there more to it? Does politics really need to be dragged into everything or is there a world where we can engage on a human level? These are some of the questions we ask ourselves and so much more came from our chat. Have a listen and enjoy!

    Chaos- Part 2

    Chaos- Part 2

We pick up on our conversation about the riots in South. The last thought that was shared was on what we perceive to be the reality for South Africans, which from certain perspectives can look gloomy, but how there is still a resolution to stay and help with the rebuilding of our nation.

In this part we look at the role that leadership plays in all of this. Everything rises and falls upon leadership. What kind of leadership do we have and what are the alternatives to what we currently have? Have a listen and let us know what you think.

    Chaos- Part 1

Our country has been through another turbulent chapter in its history. One which has once again brought up a plethora of emotions. We discuss what the recent riots and looting meant to each of us, our families and people around us. The situation which played out in some parts of South Africa can honestly only be described as one of the low points in our country's history. Is there something that we can take from this moment to propel us into something better?

    Inter(racial) relationships

    Inter(racial) relationships

Love. The most beautiful thing in the world. For some who are in interracial relationships, there can at times be certain challenges to overcome because of different lived experiences. In this episode we explored what some of those might be and had some good insights from one of our own who is in a successful interracial relationship of their own.

The development of the conversation probably took a different direction than we initially thought it would, but its great when we can come to these conclusions when we talk and discuss tricky issues. Enjoy!

    Access to Education

    Access to Education

Knowledge gives power. Education eradicates poverty. All slogans and statements we have heard many times before yet for many there still are some barriers to gaining access to a decent education. Tertiary education being a good example.
What are possible solutions to this issue faced by many South Africans? Is it too complex to solve? we had many different experiences from our own time at university. We explored these differences and came to some interesting conclusions. We have a few new voices on our show who add a very interesting perspective to this conversation. Enjoy!
