The Tahaan team had the pleasure to have an interaction with Mr. Rahul Deshpande, a sustainability practitioner eloquent enough to have given lectures in Prestigious institutes like IIM-Ahmedabad, IIT Delhi, and NIIT Hyderabad. He has been working in Venu Madhuri Trust in Kolhapur for the last 21 years, which is focused on sustainable rural development. We had a conversation with him regarding pressing issues we face today like the reasons behind migration, how can we start water conservation at the village level, and our responsibility as consumers to conserve water.

A hydrogeologist plays a crucial role in the prediction of droughts and the management of the available water resources by mapping the aquifers and preserving water resources and using them conservatively, and revitalizing water resources. To get to know more about this profession, the team of Tahaan arranged an interview with Mr.Upendra Dhonde, who has been working as a Hydrogeologist in the Central Ground Water Board Ministry of Water Resources and has experience working in this department for over 19 years now.

Water shortage issues are on a rise and overlooking them can lead to serious repercussions in the near future. In order to tackle such issues, ancient Malguzar tanks can prove to be of help. Mr. Shrish Apte and the team have made a collective effort of rejuvenating old Malguzari tanks and restoring significant water levels. The Malguzar tanks are 300 years old but are as important as ever.

On 11th March, Team Tahaan got the chance to interview Blue Hero: Mr. Gunvant Sonawane, and ask riveting questions to him about his work and his experiences. Mr. Gunvant Sonawane has been working for over 10 years on water conservation and the environment in Jalgaon and Pune regions.  He has changed the face of water conservation in north Maharashtra. He has created water storage of about 130 crore liters in numerous villages in these regions, has provided training to the people of over 37 villages for residential water conservation, and has organized events such as the first Jal Sammelan of North Maharashtra. He has also been actively working for the development of slums through his Samutkarsh project and also has been helping students by providing needy students with school kits and setting up community learning centers and rural competitive study centers.
