Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Dark Matter and Atlas – Reviews

First up, the team return to the sandy outback wasteland with ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Sam and Miranda discuss the incredible world-building in this apocalyptic extravaganza, including the politics and economy that shape the desolate landscape. It’s a great origin story. Special mention goes to their discussion on character names, they will leave you laughing out loud.

Next, the team turns their attention to the multiverse in ‘Dark Matter’, where Sam and Miranda reveal a surprising confession. It’s agreed that Apple delivers hard, compelling sci-fi, but will ‘Dark Matter’ live up to this? While Miranda and Sam debate the use of multiverses, Tamzyn reveals her opinion on the show’s pacing. All agree it’s worth watching all six episodes.

And finally, the team takes a look at ‘Atlas’. It’s a great film if you can suspend your disbelief, a cinematic version of comfort food. Sam reveals the fascinating parallel between watching an AI learn what it is to be human and autism. Miranda happily jumps on a soapbox about the misuses and perils of AI. The team even coins a more appropriate name for the AI that appears in the film.

Next up Clayton, Tamzyn and Sam review Beacon 23, and it’s unanimous. The series seemingly emerged out of nowhere, leaving everyone wondering why they hadn’t heard about it earlier. Every aspect of the series is a delightful surprise, prompting the question: is it possible that the series surpasses the book? Consistently engaging and filled with hope for the future of AI, the teams fascinating discussion delves into the intricacies of personal AI and its impact.

Clayton and Tamzyn then journey into the final series of Star Trek: Discovery, where each episode offers a unique experience with ample screen time for most characters.
