In this series, podcast host Jonathan Foster takes a closer look at the lives of youth leaders and activists, discussing the current climate, environment, and health crisis and the possibilities, alternatives, and ideas for transformational change. In this third episode, we speak to Climate Activist Komal Kumar from Fiji. She is currently doing her master’s in development studies, focusing on “Climate Change and Planned Relocation in Fiji”. She is a member of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance as the Pacific Island Representative and the Alliance For Future Generations.

Komal offers us her philosophy of engagement through education and how to be taken seriously as a climate and health activist, the psychology of standing up and being counted, the importance of ocean ecosystems, taking a stand against tokenism and keeping an open mind when trying to find sustainable solutions. She is working to raise awareness concerning the severity of the climate and health emergency that the Pacific is facing and increase the presence of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance in the Pacific and provide an engaging platform for youths from the Pacific to engage more effectively.
