We have two types of problems in our lives: inside and outside. We tend to focus on the outside problems, like job loss, relationship struggle, or political crisis, but we would be wise to pay at least equal attention to our inside problems, like anger, greed, and self-indulgence. The suffering of innocent people can be profoundly troubling, and it can be a significant source of doubt. Often, well-meaning people offer explanations for suffering that aren’t actually helpful and are sometimes even harmful. But God does not want anyone to suffer.
