'An Old Old Story' is a monthly podcast. Each episode deals with a theme particularly relevant to the month it's released. Episodes typically consist of a few opening thoughts, an interview, and essay. Though we hope the conversation is fresh and new, the ideas themselves are not. These are things that have been and will be wrestled with long before and after us. Perhaps T.S. Eliot said it best in East Coker:
"And what there is to conquer
By strength and submission, has already been discovered
Once or twice, or several times, by men whom one cannot hope
To emulate—but there is no competition— There is only the fight to recover what has been lost

We've brought you essay, fiction, and interviews all aimed at testing the parameters of our reality. In this episode we honor the Harding students and faculty who spoke out against the injustices of their time; we turn a hopeful and critical eye on the future of Harding. Take this episode as a preface to a better chapter. Take it as a charge to engage in narrative for all its healing and revelatory powers. So gather around the fire and pull close, because we've got an old old story to tell.

Well, it's November, and one year from now the nation will be heading
back to the polls. We at An Old, Old Story thought it was an
appropriate time to probe the relationship between Christians and
politics. These days, a faith once seen as subversive for their
abstention from political processes is now associated with all the
polemics of national politics. It's become embedded in party platforms
and agendas. So, it seemed like it was time to reassess. We're looking
for echoes James A. Harding and David Lipscomb, hoping to come back
into contact with a religious life that isn't found at the voting
booth. -

It's October. Time for goblins, ghosts, demons, and yes, witches. On this month's episode, we look at the cultural and political practice of witch hunting. Mass panic. Fear-mongering. Scapegoating. Nothing captures our attention quite like having a really good enemy or devil to blame for our troubles. A sense of identity is important to any group. But what happens when marking the divide between Insiders and Outsiders becomes an act of hatred, exclusion, fear, and violence?
