Ep. 9 Why Transladies are Ladies.

Ep. 9 Why Transladies are Ladies.

November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day where we take the time to honor the trans people who have lost their lives in the fight for justice, for simply being trans. Stigmatization and fear is used to justify violence, and this is something that cannot be ignored in our communities.  We would like to dedicate this episode to Brooklyn Deshauna Smith, a 20 y/o trans woman who was shot and killed in Shreveport last month.  To her family and friends, we offer our deepest condolences. Shreveport close to all of us involved in this podcast, so her loss hits close to home.  Today, we are joined by Yngrid, who will be discussing her experiences as a transwoman with us, as well.

Ep. 8 The Red Flags of Abuse

Ep. 8 The Red Flags of Abuse

Welcome back to Because I’m a Lady That’s Why, a podcast about responding to anti-femme issues in a ladylike fashion.

In today’s episode, I would like to discuss the red flags that indicate an abuser in relationships.  No two relationships are the same, but there are patterns that appear in abusive relationships. It can take years and years to see abuse for what it is.

This was a difficult episode to record. It was emotional, but it is imperative that those who recognize that they are being abused seek help.  Here are some valuable resources:

Ep. 6 Why Promote Breast Cancer Awareness?

Ep. 6 Why Promote Breast Cancer Awareness?

I will be discussing the importance of breast cancer awareness.  This is part two in a series discussing modesty culture and women’s health. Breast cancer is the second biggest killer of women (second to lung cancer). Early detection and awareness are the best defense, but many young women are ignoring the steps they should take to monitor their own health.   My guest today is Amanda Tamaccio, a talented, little bombshell of a lady who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. In a year’s time, her whole life has changed. I asked to interview her in today’s episode so that listeners may hear about how important breast cancer awareness is from someone who knows better than I.

Ep. 5 Why Cover It Up?

Ep. 5 Why Cover It Up?

This episode is Part one in a series that exploring of the culture of modesty and how it affects women’s health!  We shouldn’t be ashamed/scared/bullied into covering up our bodies! We have liberties that should be protected. So when I say, “cover it up” here, I’m not just talking about covering up the parts of the body, the skin. I am also talking about covering up issues that are important. What do you say? Shall we expose them?
