Episode 022 welcomes Painter, Chocolate Lover, and non-Mime Jenna Arvelo (@femme.noire.vll). We sat with Jenna as she told us about her spiritual growth through therapy and her practice as a painter.
 
Jenna gives some insight into astrology, astronomy, and we share our astrological big-3 round table style. We also get into her spiritual practices, shopping for crystals, and much more. We discuss the backlash against Tennis Star Naomi Osaka and 7-time Olympic Champion Gymnast Simone Biles pulling out of the Olympics as we dive into the bigger topic of mental health, male athletes advocating for mental health, and being ok with not being ok. As we close off the eppy, Jenna sheds her shyness by sharing her own mental health, using therapy as a tool, self-care, and how her paintings are a form of self-medication.  We put a bow on this one by naming our favorite items from Trader Joe's because Jenna loves Trader Joe's. "Existing is quite weird."

Episode 021 welcomes DJ, style extraordinaire, but most of all "just a guy" NKNX [en•kay•en•ex]. A few months ago, we sat with NKNX as he told us about his 10 plus year journey of being a DJ and the experiences that came along the way.
 
NKNX explains how DJing is his creative outlet, the idea of having (or not having) the genius gene, his perspective on the 'come up,' and his personal hardships, especially during the quarantine. We discuss his transition from podcasting to new ventures including WE OUTSIDE, alongside Joga (@joshuagarcia) and Délé (@dele.don.dele) every other Friday at The Yard (@theyardnewark), working with hip-hop band/group, The '99 Trip (@the99trip), and more to come. We close off the eppy discussing the sacrifices it took to get him here, lessons learned, applying them, and what comes along with the gig, whether at weddings... or funerals. MF DOOM pulled from the world around him to create his music and persona. His attention to detail, observant nature, and constant absorption of information fueled his creativity. The concept of 10,000 hours yet again holds true. In short, it was practice.
 
To honor the late, great and influential MF DOOM, Episode 020 dives into the creative direction and what inspired the cover of Madvillian's–the duo of MF DOOM and Madlib–2004 album Madvillainy. We share our theory on the connection between Kanye's MBDTF and Yeezus to Madvillainy, as we detail the dots (or squares) that tie them together. We discuss how inspiration fuels the work, stealing like an artist, how essential repetition and observation is to our craft(s), MF DOOM actually being mainstream in hindsight, "putting the mask on," and the art of practice. We talkin' about practice, man. Life is just practice.
