    Jeremiah 1

    Jeremiah 1

Jeremiah 1 New King James Version

Jeremiah Called to Be a Priest
1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, 2 to whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. 3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.
    The Prophet Is Called
4 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified[a] you;I [b]ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

    6 Then said I:

“Ah, Lord God!Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”

7 But the Lord said to me:

“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’For you shall go to all to whom I send you,And whatever I command you, you shall speak.8 Do not be afraid of their faces,For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

9 Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me:

“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.10 See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms,To root out and to pull down,To destroy and to throw down,To build and to plant.”

11 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?”
And I said, “I see a [c]branch of an almond tree.”
12 Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am [d]ready to perform My word.”
13 And the word of the Lord came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?”
And I said, “I see a boiling pot, and it is facing away from the north.”
14 Then the Lord said to me:

“Out of the north calamity shall break forthOn all the inhabitants of the land.15 For behold, I am callingAll the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says the Lord;“They shall come and each one set his throneAt the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem,Against all its walls all around,And against all the cities of Judah.16 I will utter My judgmentsAgainst them concerning all their wickedness,Because they have forsaken Me,Burned incense to other gods,And worshiped the works of their own hands.

17 “Therefore prepare yourself and arise,And speak to them all that I command you.Do not be dismayed before their faces,Lest I dismay you before them.18 For behold, I have made you this dayA fortified city and an iron pillar,And bronze walls against the whole land—Against the kings of Judah,Against its princes,Against its priests,And against the people of the land.19 They will fight against you,But they shall not prevail against you.For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”

    1 Peter 5:8-11

1 Peter 5:8-11 New King James Version

8 Be [a]sober, be [b]vigilant; [c]because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But [d]may the God of all grace, who called [e]us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, [f]perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Job 1 New King James Version

Job and His Family in Uz
1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and [a]shunned evil. 2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the [b]people of the East.
4 And his sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and [c]sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed[d] God in their hearts.” Thus Job did regularly.
    Satan Attacks Job’s Character
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and [e]Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to [f]Satan, “From where do you come?”
So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you [g]considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and [h]shuns evil?”
9 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not [i]made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse[j] You to Your face!”
12 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your [k]power; only do not lay a hand on his person.”
So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
Job Loses His Property and Children
13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house; 14 and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, 15 when the [l]Sabeans [m]raided them and took them away—indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and [n]consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and suddenly a great wind came from [o]across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said:

    “Naked

    Shepherd the Flock
5 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but [a]willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being [b]lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

The Words of King Lemuel’s Mother
31 The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him:

2 What, my son?And what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows?3 Do not give your strength to women,Nor your ways to that which destroys kings.

4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel,It is not for kings to drink wine,Nor for princes intoxicating drink;5 Lest they drink and forget the law,And pervert the justice of all [a]the afflicted.6 Give strong drink to him who is perishing,And wine to those who are bitter of heart.7 Let him drink and forget his poverty,And remember his misery no more.

8 Open your mouth for the speechless,In the cause of all who are [b]appointed to die.9 Open your mouth, judge righteously,And plead the cause of the poor and needy.

    The Virtuous Wife

10 Who[c] can find a [d]virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;So he will have no lack of gain.12 She does him good and not evilAll the days of her life.13 She seeks wool and flax,And willingly works with her hands.14 She is like the merchant ships,She brings her food from afar.15 She also rises while it is yet night,And provides food for her household,And a portion for her maidservants.16 She considers a field and buys it;From [e]her profits she plants a vineyard.17 She girds herself with strength,And strengthens her arms.18 She perceives that her merchandise is good,And her lamp does not go out by night.19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,And her hand holds the spindle.20 She extends her hand to the poor,Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,For all her household is clothed with scarlet.22 She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.23 Her husband is known in the gates,When he sits among the elders of the land.24 She makes linen garments and sells them,And supplies sashes for the merchants.25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come.26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,And on her tongue is the law of kindness.27 She watches over the ways of her household,And does not eat the bread of idleness.28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:29 “Many daughters have done well,But you excel them all.”30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,And let her own works praise her in the gates.

    Suffering for God’s Glory
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 14 If you are [a]reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. [b]On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a [c]busybody in other people’s matters. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this [d]matter.
17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 Now

“If the righteous one is scarcely saved,Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”

19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

    The Wisdom of Agur
30 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, his utterance. This man declared to Ithiel—to Ithiel and Ucal:

2 Surely I am more stupid than any man,And do not have the understanding of a man.3 I neither learned wisdomNor have knowledge of the Holy One.

4 Who has ascended into heaven, or descended?Who has gathered the wind in His fists?Who has bound the waters in a garment?Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name,If you know?

5 Every word of God is [a]pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.6 Do not add to His words,Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.

7 Two things I request of You(Deprive me not before I die):8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me;Give me neither poverty nor riches—Feed me with the food allotted to me;9 Lest I be full and deny You,And say, “Who is the Lord?”Or lest I be poor and steal,And profane the name of my God.

10 Do not malign a servant to his master,Lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.

11 There is a generation that curses its father,And does not bless its mother.12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes,Yet is not washed from its filthiness.13 There is a generation—oh, how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are [b]lifted up.14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,And whose fangs are like knives,To devour the poor from off the earth,And the needy from among men.

15 The leech has two daughters—Give and Give!

There are three things that are never satisfied,Four never say, “Enough!”:16 The[c] grave,The barren womb,The earth that is not satisfied with water—And the fire never says, “Enough!”

17 The eye that mocks his father,And scorns obedience to his mother,The ravens of the valley will pick it out,And the young eagles will eat it.

18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me,Yes, four which I do not understand:19 The way of an eagle in the air,The way of a serpent on a rock,The way of a ship in the [d]midst of the sea,And the way of a man with a virgin.

20 This is the way of an adulterous woman:She eats and wipes her mouth,And says, “I have done no wickedness.”

21 For three things the earth is perturbed,Yes, for four it cannot bear up:22 For a servant when he reigns,A fool when he is filled with food,23 A [e]hateful woman when she is married,And a maidservant who succeeds her mistress.

24 There are four things which are little on the earth,But they are exceedingly wise:25 The ants are a people not strong,Yet they prepare their food in the summer;26 The [f]rock badgers are a feeble folk,Yet they make their homes in the crags;27 The locusts have no king,Yet they all advance in ranks;28 The [g]spider skillfully grasps with its hands,And it is in kings’ palaces.

29 There are three things which are majestic in pace,Yes, four which are stately in walk:30 A lion, which is mighty among beastsAnd does not turn away from any;31 A [h]greyhound,A male goat also,And [i]a king whose troops are with him.

32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourself,Or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth.33 For as the churning of milk produces butter,And wringing the nose produces blood,So the forcing of wrath produces strife.
