    The Temple | 5.5.24

A sermon from Matthew 24:1-2 (ESV)
    The radiance of the temple
    The ruin of the temple
    The replacement of the temple
    Gospel Connection
But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation bin His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:21-26Jesus came to earth, taught truth, lived holiness, and humbly laid down His life as the sacrifice for sin, once for all. All mankind needs a savior, a redeemer, for every one has sinned and falls short of the holiness of Creator God (Romans 3:23). Jesus willingly went to the cross and wasmurdered, taking on our sin in His death, which was done on our behalf. Jesus satisfied the wrath of His Father, who is holy, perfect, and just. The only way for someone to enter the presence of Almighty, Sovereign God is by His grace through faith in Jesus Christ whoseblood shed on the cross satisfied God’s wrath against sin by being the perfect sacrifice (Romans 3:25; 1 John 2:1-2). In Christ alone man is reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:16-21).

    Gospel Connection
Jesus is the Messiah. God’s covenant with Abraham is unilateral and irrevocable. Paul taught about Jesus’ future salvation of Israel.  "For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; 26and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”27“This is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.” 28From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers; 29for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:25-29)
    Application

John tells his purpose for writing his first letter: to maintain fellowship with God our Father and His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3).
“6If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” (1 John 1:6-10)
    Application
What will you do this week to keep your heart pure so that what is seen outwardly accurately reflects who you are inwardly (Prov. 4:20-27)?
