Persevering in difficult circumstances
Even though our efforts in the Lord may not result in the blessings and outcomes we seek here and now, we can persevere with assurance and joy knowing that they will be rewarded in the world to come. We persevere in faith, trusting that God will ultimately fulfil all his promises, in Christ Jesus.

Journeying to the promised land
This world is not our ultimate home. Christians are strangers and foreigners in this world, as we look forward to our eternal destiny in the world to come. We can therefore sympathise with those who are migrants, refugees and asylum seekers here and now, showing the compassion of God to them, as well as holding out the gospel to them.

Living in an environment hostile to the gospel
Jesus tells us that he has overcome the world. We can to if we depend on him.

Live as pilgrims in this world
God's people face the question as to how to live in the world. Ultimately, we do what we can to serve God and love others in society, but in our hearts we should love him unreservedly.

To love God, receive Christ
The history of the Old Testament Israelites shows us that if we want to follow God, to be faithful to him, we need Christ Jesus in our hearts and lives. Although as sinners we have been unfaithful to God, he is gracious and merciful to us, and welcomes us, through faith in Christ.
