In this time of uncertainty, we have a certain word, a sure word. In this time of confusion, we have a clear word. God has prepared a glorious future for us, and it is in the knowledge of this future that we can overcome our present difficulties. So our challenges do not take God by surprise, quite the opposite, he uses them to prepare us for our glorious future with him.

Often the world drags us, beats the confidence out us. Then comes the Bible in the midst of our persecution, it tells us we are more than how the world sees us. We have a glorious future, that is far more richer and glorious than our sorry present state. However, the future is already here, in the sense that we begin to live in the reality of that future now. The preacher is doing an over view of 1.3-2.10 and he will raise three questions: 1) What our future looks like; 2) How we can get to that future; and 3) How do we begin to live now in reality of this future.

There are two cities, The City of God where all believers in Jesus are citizens, and The City which is this world, the city where believers live. We are elect but we are also exiles. Elected by God, made exiles by the world. We feel this tension at work, in families, and in relationships. How do you leave with this tension? This is an important question because failure to deal with this tension can easily lead one to desire to fit in with the world thereby hiding and denying who they are
