EF#44: My Post Partum TTC Journey So Far

In this week's episode I talk about my personal healing journey so far since the birth of my son in optimising my fertility, the things I have done, tried and tested, what hasn't worked, what I worry about, and what I wished I had done differently, as well as the things that I have been struggling with.
This is a very personal episode, and it was very therapeutic doing it, but also I feel quite vulnerable publishing it, as we are still TTC - I hope you find this helpful.

EF#43: The Gut Health Benefits of Artisan Brewed Water Kefir with Maya Krikke

My guest today is Maya Krikke, the sole Founder & Artisan Brewer of Myk’s Kefir (soon to be MYMY. Operating out of the Food Connect Shed in Brisbane, Australia, she is one of 37 small businesses seeking to change the food ecosystem. Commercially crafting audacious yet extraordinary probiotic drinks since 2015, her mission to make ethical and sustainable decisions for packaging, ingredient sourcing, and minimal food processing, has yielded potent, small-batch, artisan ferments of the most outrageous and exquisite flavours one could imagine (like the Gin lovers’ compliment, the organic Rhubarb & rose scented Geranium).

Armed with a vision to better educate and communicate the science-based secrets of tibicos (water kefir) cultures, she wants to enable access to any family home with the desire to learn more and create their own unique flavour. The MYMY probiotic pouch is like an equivalent to the Betty Crocker of home fermenting. Her debut kids probiotic workshop last week demonstrated that even a 7 year old can become a Brew Master in a day.
In this episode we talk about:
How Maya got into making kefir for herself and her toddler son Using juice vs fresh whole fruit to flavour kefir How Maya got into selling her kefir How Maya’s product is different from others The disadvantage of commercial fermented products How much more potent Maya’s kefir is to other commercially produced products My disastrous experience of exploding kefir! Kombucha vs Kefir Sugar-free / vegan kefir How kefir and acidic products like lemons alkalises your body How Maya’s kefir was made to “con a child it is a fizzy drink” but with health benefits What kefir is and how you make it Making water kefir and avoiding making yeast infections worse Benefits of kefir and gut health What happens if you drink too much kefir at once Providing local farmers with waste probiotic fruit Water kefir vs kombucha and how to drink them to get the best benefits for your gut and bowel movements Tips on how to make your own kefir Maya’s home making pouch’s Maya’s resources, up-coming events and new website If you want to see the bottles and kefir bubbles that Maya showed me in her interview go to the website (link below), where you will find a short video.
