    Antonia Pont: On Poetry, Essays and Education

    Meet Antonia Pont, an essayist, poet, practitioner, teacher and more. She's a senior lecturer in writing and literature at Deakin University. She's written for Rabbit, The Lifted Brow, Cordite and Meanjin.

    In this episode we discuss her experience as a teacher and lecturer, her differing approaches to writing poetry and nonfiction, and how her worldview shapes her work. We explore what poetry means and what makes it special, and why, even if she were never published again, she'll be writing it for the rest of her life.

    Rebecca Giggs: Writing in a time of ecological crisis

    Meet Rebecca Giggs, an Australian writer with an environmental sensibility, best known for her recent non-fiction book, Fathoms: The World in the Whale. Her articles and essays have been published in Best Australian Science Writing, Best Australian Essays numerous times, The Atlantic, Granta, The New York Times Magazine, and The Griffith Review. With Rosalind, she discusses her research and creative processes, as well as the role of literature in environmentalism and activism.

    Elena Gomez: Working Conditions in Publishing

    Meet Elena Gomez, a freelance editor and writer based in Melbourne. She has over ten years of industry experience, formerly holding editorial positions at Penguin Random House and Text. Elena discusses her experience organising an enterprise bargaining agreement for editors at Penguin Random House. We also talk about the personality types that are drawn to the publishing industry, work–life balance, editor salaries, and the state of freelance editing.

    Chris Grierson: Digital Publishing

    Meet Chris Grierson. He's the General Sales and Marketing Manager at Scribe Publications.

    Chris has more than 13 years industry experience working in digital publishing and sales. He’s worked for some of the largest publishing houses in Australia and New Zealand, including Penguin Random House and Apple Books.

    Chris discusses his career and what it was like being involved in the early days of digital publishing. We also explore the opportunities digital publishing has provided self-published authors, and how smaller presses are adapting to a digital format.

    Meet Patrick Boyle, Rebecca Amad and Chris Black. Patrick, Rebecca and Chris are alumni of the Bowen Street Press and this week they sit down with us and talk about their time as student interns at the Bowen Street Press and the diverse paths their careers have taken after leaving the program.
