Self-knowledge and understanding is a lifelong quest. This is a space to pause and reflect on life – asking the hard questions, being honest with the answers, while always being patient and kind with yourself.

Sharing personal reflections about life, relationships, faith, maybe food, sometimes the dogs … through the eyes of an introvert-novice-at-life-ordinary girl.

11: Cultivating Virtues by Ben Franklin

11: Cultivating Virtues by Ben Franklin

Another system I find useful is Benjamin Franklin's weekly virtue practice. I think virtues need to be cultivated. You can't say you want to be a good person, then just expect that it will come naturally to you. If you want to hit a sales target, you work everyday to reach that.  If you want to become a better person, you have to work on it everyday. You have to work to cultivate it. E-mails welcome at pajamareflections@yahoo.com

    10: One Word Intention

    10: One Word Intention

We set resolutions -- and usually we are so motivated in January, then forget all about it by February. Because life just happens. But I don't want it to be December and feel like life just passed me by. That is time I can never get back. After all, we are dying (or living) everyday.
So, I share two weekly (sometimes monthly) practice I do to keep myself in check. A weekly reflection and a weekly strategy practice.  E-mails welcome at pajamareflections@yahoo.com

9: Three Lessons from Online Dating

It's important to keep yourself centered while on dating apps. Here are three lessons I learned (and continue to learn and remind myself of). Happy February everyone!

    8: Self-Love

    8: Self-Love

This is a vulnerable and an unplanned post. This morning, I stopped my yoga practice, grabbed my phone and started recording. So apologies if the audio is noisy and I sound incoherent.
I was thinking about what I look for in others, and in particular, reflecting if I have those qualities in myself as well.  And I came to the realization that I have some work to do in terms of self-acceptance and self-love too.  I like myself. I won't trade any part of me, my consciousness or my life with anyone else. Seriously. At the same time, it's easy to love yourself if you look at the world with optimistic-tinted lenses, believe in your brimming potential, and love the image of who you want to be. And you should. But do you also love yourself for who you are now? Your angst-ridden, never-ending-existential-crisis-acne-filled self? Self-Love is both self-acceptance for who you are now, and self-love is always making an effort to be the person you want to be. It is both. So here's my rambling about it.

    7: Choose Your People

    7: Choose Your People

People change you. Relationships change you. As someone who considers herself to have a solid self-identity, those statements are difficult to digest and accept. Even as I see it around me and in me!

This reflection is prompted by the so many interactions that this pandemic has encouraged, that led me to question how I show up to others. There is a wonderful tension between letting others see you, others letting themselves be seen, and changing & growing because of that relationship(s).

    6: Ourselves Under Stress

    6: Ourselves Under Stress

Covid-19 stress is real. But that stress is unequal, and our coping capacities differ.

This reflection started when I saw the people around me act out of character, myself included. And the realization that the circumstance is not and should not be an excuse for any wrongdoing --- but perhaps the simplest thing we can do during this time is to extend our patience and try to understand one another.
