However, plastic bottles do not biodegrade, so they will remain in our environment forever. When plastic degrades, toxic chemicals in the plastic are released into the environment. Worse yet, any plastic that makes it into the environment will stay in the environment, forever harming wildlife in the future.

How is food packaging bad for the environment?
Packaging waste pollutes our air, water and soil. In fact, 1.9 million tonnes of packaging waste produces the same amount of greenhouse gas as 860,000 cars. The litter it creates also ends up in many places that it shouldn't – blocking our stormwater drains and causing serious problems for our wildlife.
