I will be reading a weekly chapter or two from books written by political activists and the occasional novel. My hope is that it will transform the audience to open the mind, to open the heart so we can create a more compassionate, peaceful and egalitarian World.

Chapter 3, the Schools: Stay Out for Freedom and the Racial Imbalance Law
A very interesting history about the fight to desegregate schools in Boston. Some progress has been made but we still have a long way to go. Mel’s book is still relevant today.

Chapter Two: Creating the Ghetto
This reading from Mel Kings’s book “Chain of Change” gives a fascinating history of Boston and explains how Black folks and other poor people have been disenfranchised while others succeed and “make progress.” Mel was fighting urban removal in the 1960’s and 70’s yet this is happening now in many places across the U.S. History repeats itself and many of us have suffered and been pushed out of our homes. We can learn, we can organize and fight back!

A fascinating history of the black community in Boston from the 1950’s through the 1970’s. Mel King’s writings are relevant for all of us who are organizing and trying to build a government and society which reflects and cares for the people. “Chain of Change” is an inspiring and pertinent book!
