    Mind

    Mind

    Groveling.

Running around at the behest of another.

These may be the pictures we have in our heads when we think about humility but it really should NOT BE SO.

Humility is having FULL dependence on God's mercy, and it has nothing to do with insecurity, or humiliation, as we will see in today's episode. Rather, humility is to have "the mind of Christ" (Philippians 2:5).

Turn to Philippians Chapter 2 as we continue our study in Philippians and explore what it means to have the mind of Christ. We will also explore Philippians 2:9-11, the remarkable passage which says, "Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Some meaty stuff is coming up today on Rinse and Repeat!

    One

    One

Miscommunication will happen. Misunderstandings. Out-and-out conflicts.

Everyday situations arise that cause ruptures in our relationships, even among other Christians, and yet, we do not have to stay in that state. God has given us that way to mend those ruptures in order to live in unity with other believers in Jesus.

Today, we explore Paul's directive to the church in Philippi to stand fast in one Spirit, a command made possible by God's Spirit and the redeeming work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Turn with me in your Bibles to Philippians Chapter 1, today on Rinse and Repeat!

    Live

    Live

What are we living for? As in REALLY living for?

In Philippians 1:21, the Apostle Paul writes, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." To him, life was about surrendering everything to the service of Christ, knowing that in the end, it was far better to enter into eternity and be with Christ!

Are we living for our families? Our careers? Ourselves? Or is it ultimately that for us, to live is Christ, and to die is gain?

Join me for our next installment of this study in the book of Philippians!

    Confidence

    Confidence

When you think confidence you may think of one whose shoulders are held high, who has a certain air about them.

You may think of a certain athlete or actor or even someone you know personally who has a lot of confidence.

You may even have a lot of confidence.

Rarely do you consider imprisonment for one's faith a source of confidence, but that is precisely what we are about to see in Paul's life today.

In Philippians 1, Paul talks about the confidence that believers have in his chains - confidence because God will USE even his imprisonment to further the Good News of the Gospel!

Beloved, take heart, God will use whatever situation that He saw fit to allow in your life to further the Good News of the Gospel if you allow it! I share a story of contemporary missionaries in whose lives God allowed unspeakable tragedy, but who used that tragedy as a source of such confidence.

Turn in your Bibles to Philippians, Chapter 1, for today's installment of Rinse and Repeat!

Healing from Relationship Hurts Redux (A Lagniappe)

Healing from Relationship Hurts Redux (A Lagniappe)

Last week we explored how we can run to God in desperate situations, and one such situation can involve crisis in our relationships. Today I am sharing a reprise message about overcoming deep hurts in our relationships.

To begin, I couldn't resist retelling a HILARIOUS story from my early marriage, to illustrate the need for healing in all of our relationships. Then I explore the story of Jacob and Esau for lessons on handling the inevitable hurts that come in all human relationships.

As C.S. Lewis said, “Grief and pain are the price humans have to pay for the love and total commitment we have for another person. The more we love, the more we hurt when we lose the object of our love. But if we are honest with ourselves, would we have it any other way?”

When You are Desperate, As In REALLY Desperate (A Lagniappe)

When You are Desperate, As In REALLY Desperate (A Lagniappe)

"God if you give me the life of my child, I will serve you all the days of my life."

We have all seen that scene in the movies - someone is in desperate need, so they begin to negotiate with God.

Or perhaps we have LIVED that scene.

When was the last time we really sought God out of a place of desperation? When did we last pray less like "Now I lay me down to sleep" and more like "Lord, my life hangs in the balance here!"

Today's lagniappe is about when we are desperate, as in REALLY desperate, and we come running to God in those times of great need. We will look at four main figures of Scripture who faced desperate situations, and what God did in each of those situations.

Join me today as we see how the effective, fervent prayers of the righteous avail so very much!
