A transformative space for movement-building alongside invisibilized voices as part of a transborder struggle with the goal of abolishing colonial walls, by exposing the violences, oppression, and exploitation experienced by our community in and out of prisons/detention centers and across nations, with the aim of empowering ourselves and each other to reclaim our right to free movement and life.

Hunger Strikes in OMDC
by Detention Resistance
We are Voices of Transborder Resistance, a new podcast created by Detention Resistance. This podcast is a transformative space for movement-building alongside invisibilized voices as part of the transborder struggle. We aim to abolish colonial walls by exposing the violence, oppression, and exploitation experienced by our community, in and out of prisons and detention centers across nations. We aim to empower ourselves and each other to reclaim our right to free movement and life.
In this second episode, we continue our conversation about the impact of COVID-19 in Otay Mesa Detention Center. Still, this time, our focus is on how detained compas have protested and resisted the inhumane conditions throughout hunger strikes. Last year in Otay Mesa Detention Center, there were a series of hunger strikes protesting the medical neglect and the inhumane conditions throughout the rise of Covid-19. In this episode, you hear from compas detained in OMDC and local organizers.

For this first episode, we’ll be sharing recorded testimonies from our compas inside Otay Mesa Detention Center and their experience with COVID-19. We’ll go over the medical neglect they are experiencing; food insecurity, ways compas have organized to slow the spread of the virus, and we’ll also be sharing bits of a pre-recorded interview with Monika Langarica a lawyer with the ACLU San Diego, sharing on the Class action lawsuit against ICE and Otay Mesa Detention Center.
