Essential

Gary and Kole cover every area of each game lovingly and methodically. For any serious fan of the SoulsBorne games this series of podcasts is absolutely essential. A masterful companion piece to the games.

Local bylaws made bonfires illegal, so I first listened to this podcast as an attempt to live vicariously. By sheer luck, the two hosts spent most of their time talking about a videogame series that I like: 'Dark Souls.' I kept listening, and quickly came to appreciate their perspectives. I learned a lot from their in-depth discussion of the characters, settings and storylines, and the hosts have a rapport that is a joy to listen to. Their approach to the series is also refreshing in both its inquisitiveness and its honesty: while they generally share the reverence many people have for these games, they're not sycophants, so it's easy to trust that we'll actually hear their own views about something, rather than paraphrasings of received truth or general consensus. Because of the inclusion of listener mail and special guests, their views never dominate, so for me it hits the ideal balance. I'll keep tuning in every week, even now that I've overthrown my local government and piled its remnants onto a bonfire.
