On this Episode our Building Leaders, Teens 13-18, discuss their latest T.V. Obsession. "Bluey" is an Australian children's T.V. taking the world by storm. Although, it is targeting demographic ages of 5-7 -year-olds it has become extremely popular with all ages. Why is it resonating with our teenagers? We discuss what "Bluey' has tough us about the relationships we want to see with our families, what it means to have family quality time, and why we do and don't have much of it anymore.

In the episode we sit down with our Building Leaders, teens 13-18, and a youth leaders to discuss parent-child estrangement, when a parent or child cuts tries completely with or has little contact with each other with emotional distancing. We discuss the challenges and benefits in making that difficult choice to become estranged with their parent(s) and what lead up to making the difficult choice. We discuss estrangement and its relation to emotional abuse and the significant difference in rate of estranged fathers.

The Building Leaders Youth, teens 13-18, reflect on about their time at the mayoral and alderman forms. In this episode we discuss the candidates policy ideas, character, and over all presentation as a speaker and a candidate. We discuss many major concerns in the city of Chicago and it's surrounding neighborhoods regarding policing, schooling, crime, transit and more. They also reflect on youth political engagement, and their over all attitudes about political involvement.

In this first segment of our Building Leaders podcast, Crisis at the Border, we discuss the history of the US-Mexican border and its ripple effects within our community. In this second episode of Crisis at the Border, we interview two immigrant adults (Xavier and Zahira) who graciously volunteered to tell us their stories. Their stories are very different, attesting to the diverse situations belonging to every immigrant. Xavier and Zahira both detail how they came to the united states and their experiences with racism and xenophobia. Listen in on this student-led interview to gain insight into the human experience of immigration.

In this first segment of our Building Leaders podcast, Crisis at the Border, we discuss the history of the US-Mexican border and its ripple effects within our community. In this first episode, students hold a freewheeling discussion concerning their first impressions of border issues, xenophobia, and racism. While the border crisis in its current form has spanned decades, the quintessential image of children being held in brutal conditions within US detention centers have now spanned the terms of two US presidents (Donald Trump and Joe Biden). As youth and the future leaders of the United States, it's important that we join this crucial conversation. Listen in on our organic discussion as we place ourselves in the shoes of youth who are currently being held in these immigrant detention centers and share our families' stories.
