Soooooooooo, this episode is a bit of a doozy. The topic is heavy, but it is so necessary. I had the pleasure of being in conversation with Alua Arthur, a beautiful black woman who is a Death Doula. The title alone, “DEATH DOULA”. That is a heavy title. I had a delightful conversation with Alua about her new book, “briefly perfectly human” which can be purchased here. The book is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING… It caused me to look at my life and really begin to think about how I value the fullness of my life. Do yourself the favor of 1. LISTENING TO THIS EPISODE & 2. The conversation was one that brought about an actual physical response. The concept of grief, and in the way we began to discuss it on the show did something to my mind and my spirit. Take some time and listen to part one of this episode & then next week tune into part two! Friends and Kin LET’S START BY SAYING HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HAND ME MY PURSE the podcast!!!! My baby is 4 years old on this day - April 1st, 2024. It’s been such an amazingly invigorating journey & I don’t play on stopping any time soon! I am learning so much about SO MUCH. Learning about myself and actively going through my healing journey right before your eyes. Working through grief, gratitude & growth. This show has been the catalyst for so many wonderful experiences. 

 

I chose to not just do ONE jam for this episode. I decided to do FOUR + a bonus in celebration of HMMP’s birthday! I was on Spring Break & decided to go to Virginia Beach because it was in my budget. I was able to be close to the water, smell some new air, see some new faces, taste some different foods and just GET AWAY… I’ve said many times on the show that my mother’s father is from this area, the Tidewater Region - Newport News to be exact. Missy is as well, she’s from Portsmouth - so you know in my mind, we cousins. Even though I know we aren’t. Anyway, I love her and I feel like people don’t adore her and cherish her genius the way we should. So I decided to do so.
