Cant stop listening to all the amazing content that keeps coming out, love all the Draft talks about who could be or should be selected and free agency talks cant wait for more!.
Heres my pipe dream about what the Lakers should do with #2 pick and beyond below as posted on Lakersground :
First off im a Lakers fan from New Zealand and have been thinking of what the Lakers could do to move forward now that they have secured the #2 pick and have Magic and Pelinka now running the show i love the Lakers young core but i am also one for a win now team and have been thinking of delusional trades that i would wish that could come true here is my madness i have come up with.
1st part (trade section) :
Trades :
• DLO + 28th pick + Deng + future 1st round pick vs Butler
• JC + Randle + future 1st round pick + future 2nd round pick vs Paul George
• #2 pick + Ingram + Mozgov + Brewer + 2019 1st round pick + 2018 2nd round (Bulls pick from Utah)vs Melo & Porzingis
Starting Line up after trades and FA :
PG : Jrue Holiday (20-2xmill & gets to play with his brother)
SG : Butler (18.6mill)
SF : PG13 (19.3mill)
PF : Melo (26.3mill)
C : Kristaps (4.5mill)
Bench :
PG : Justin Holiday (5-8mill dependent on how much his brother cost) / Tyler Ennis (x mill)
SG : David Nwaba (1.3mill)
SF : Nick Young*
PF : Larry Nance Jr (1.3mill)
C : Ivica Zubac (1mill)
Rest of the roster could be min vets to fill it out (David Lee?,Speights?Gibson for mid lvl Excep or is he still worth more in todays market).
Notes :
* If Nick Young doesn't opt out on his last year for big contract elsewhere)
if he does give more to Justin to sweeten the deal to lead the bench and add a mid level exception at SF.
- Cut Tarik Blacks contract
Use mid level exception on a vet who can shoot to give depth to 2nd unit
Great defenders all over the floor and second unit has Holiday,Swaggy P (potentially) or mid lvl excep & solid young players in Nance & Zubac & Nwaba hungry to show there worth.
Clearly i'm all over the show but this team would be amazing even by taking on Carmelo's contract i think with a team like this we would be deadly and a force from day 1 with Magic.
is this even possible ? what would not work and how would Melo be taking the back seat and not the Alpha in LA , would having this starting 5 be to much to make it work and how about all the shooting involved i worked it out to be like 115 shots a game when the average is like 88 or something if everyone shot like they currently do which ofc we know will not happen.
I personally think what Phil did on air to Melo was absolutely the worst thing he could do because i think all teams now know where Melo stands for the Knicks now we have the leverage, would they give up basically Kristaps for #2 & Ingram and taking on Mozgovs bad contract when they already have Noah's ? If they did this they would be lottery bound next year and have cap space to burn.
They could end up with something like Fultz or Ball, Ingram, with either Monk, D Smith, Ntilikina giving them a 1,2,3 punch for the next decade.
They could even go real tank and take on bad contracts and go for #1 pick and scoop up Porter in next years draft with even more picks that they accumulated during the season for taking on all the bad contracts.
If i were a Knick fan thats something i could get on board with, your stuck with Melo for another 2 years with Phil (he should have been fired) and a unhappy Kristaps start fresh with #2,#8, Ingram and future picks
TLDR Summary : trade everyone and everything and all future picks for the next near decade win now team and shed bad contracts (Mozgov & Deng) for All Stars and Future All Stars
