Self-care: Setting up and sticking to your non-negotiables

Self-care: Setting up and sticking to your non-negotiables

Welcome to the "Let's Talk" podcast with Jackie Montes. In today's episode Jackie reflects on Valentine's Day. Although Valentine's Day is usually associated with intimate relationships regarding a significant other, Jackie wanted to switch things up for those who are not physically close to the people they love, have recently experienced a break up, or are single. She wanted to make this podcast all about self-care and how to set up and stick to non-negotiables. These are things that help us practice self-love, because in order to give someone else our best selves, we have to prioritize our needs first. By doing this, we are able to meet "Maslow's hierarchy of needs" which allows us to feel fulfilled within ourselves and our life. Jackie learned in her psychology class that in order for us to achieve in all areas of our life, we must succeed in 5 different steps. We need to take care of our physiological and safety needs, we need to have a sense of love and belonging, and we need to feed our self esteem, so that we can reach self-actualization. Jackie believes that self-care can help us reach our goals of becoming the individuals we think we were born to be. By sticking to our non-negotiables, not only does it make us feel better about ourselves, but it also gives us the space to share that same love we have with ourselves, with the people around us. Jackie emphasizes prioritizing yourself so that you can, "Be You, Do You, For You". New episodes are posted each Monday and don't forget to tune in next week for another episode! Thanks for listening.
