G'day Fearmongers,
Here's is this week's Ad Free version of A Rational Fear.
It will be of no surprise to the listeners of A Rational Fear that Australia's future security is tied to the USA. So whatever our big brother on the other side of the world is going through, we'll share the pain.
Made evident this week with the news that the big AUKUS submarine deal that was struck a couple of years ago is already slowly falling apart with the US Congress deciding that they're not going provide Australia with one of the refurbished subs as part of the deal, because their shipyards are falling behind in production and can't supply their own country.
Joy! We could instead be running behind schedule and over budget on a French submarine right now, instead we haven't even managed to get the chance to be over budget and behind on an American one.
Such is life of a middle power.
On this episode we chat with two people who have come face to face with one of the most secretive parts of the US defence apparatus in Australia.
Aleksa and Alex from the YouTube channel BoyBoy join us to talk us through their adventure trying to get into the Pine Gap facility in central Australia. They talk about the lack of Australian sovereignty and the ties between Australia and the United States. The conversation covers Gough Whitlam's dismissal, the ANZUS treaty, and the security at Pine Gap. They also share their experiences with law enforcement and the challenges of creating content that pushes boundaries. The episode ends with a discussion on the repercussions and legal advice they received.
