Clint Smith is a self described numbers man - and a former advisor to Dame Jacinda Ardern who has walked the halls of government working with Labour and the Green Party - so the perfect person to sit down and sinus the 30th May Budget and the sleight of hand tricks they pulled in their planned expenditure this year!

Thursdays, am I right? What a long day it was this week - with an underwhelming budget made up of borrowing for things which totally aren’t tax cuts - look over there, it’s extra funding for education (that’ll probably be sunk into the uncoated elements of Charter Schools). And of course the epic Toitu te Tiriti activation as well.

It’s Budget Day! To get an idea of how the budget impacts people and the narrative around it, keep an eye around how the media portrays it. They have a strong influence in how it’s received by the public - after all it’s what happened in 1991 - and those were a very different set of economic and political times…
