Shalom Macon is a growing and vibrant Messianic Jewish congregation in Macon, Georgia, serving all of the Middle Georgia area. Our congregation is a diverse community, comprised of families from many nations, tribes, and tongues (Revelation 7:9). Therefore, obviously, many are not from a Jewish background. And while we are a Jewish synagogue, committed to the Jewish traditions, teachings, and lifestyle exemplified by our ancestors, our vision is to practice an inclusive Messianic Judaism for All Nations; a restoration of the faith of the earliest communities of Yeshua-followers; a window into the Judaism of the Messianic Era in which King Messiah will reign.

5 Minute Torah - Kedoshim - Blood On Our Tongues

What is the sharpest weapon in the world? A spear? A knife? A sword? A razor? Actually, there’s something each one of us have that’s much sharper and far more deadly than any of these. This tiny little thing has caused the most bloodshed of any weapon known to man and we tend to use it far too frequently—especially against the people we love the most. What am I talking about? Let’s take a look in this week’s 5 Minute Torah.

Killing My Old Man, Part 1 - The Old Me

Killing My Old Man, Part 1 - The Old Me

If we have been made alive through Messiah, then the “Old Man” should be dead & gone. But it seems he’s always lurking in the shadows and trying to rear his ugly head. How do we keep him in check and live as a new creation through Yeshua? If you struggle with this, then his series is for you. The first step is to have an honest conversation about our Identity to make sure we recognize our “Old Man.”

    The Lies We Believe

    The Lies We Believe

What lies have we told ourselves so long that they’ve become our truth, particularly the idea that, “This is just who I am”? It’s a universal truth that God loves you just the way you are. But it’s also true that He refuses to leave you that way. And, believe it or not, this is connected to our current season of counting the Omer between Passover and Shavuot. It isn’t just about numbers. It’s about anticipation and preparing ourselves to receive the Torah anew on Shavuot. If that’s the case, shouldn’t we be a different, “more improved” version of ourselves than last year? If so, how do we accomplish this?

    A Passover Problem

    A Passover Problem

A “holiday” based on remembering slavery? When you really think about it, it’s kind of strange, right? And the Torah has dozens of verses commanding Israel to remember their slavery? Shouldn’t that be something to forget?! Is this the best origin story Israel could have hoped for? There must be more, right? Let’s explore.

5 Minute Torah - Metzorah - Healing The Leper

5 Minute Torah - Metzorah - Healing The Leper

Did Yeshua come to disrupt the religious system of Judaism and replace it with a new religion called Christianity? He seemed to always be at odds with the religious people of his day. He confronted the religous authorities. He drove the money changers from the Temple. He contrasted the “old” way of doing things with his “new” way. But if that’s the case, why did Yeshua send the leper to the priests for inspection after he healed him? If he was already healed and Yeshua was coming to replace the priesthood—as many claim—why did he send him back to the priests “for a proof to them”? Was he really as much of a renegade as we’ve made him out to be? Let’s find out in this week’s 5 Minute Torah.
