Only a few months ago we had people complaining that the game was favoring the batters in the IPL, with teams pushing 300 in an innings… and a few months later in New York we haven’t passed 300 in 4 innings of a T20 World Cup….

The T20 World Cup is here….let’s talk about it!


USA ended up running out comfortable winners against their oldest rivals in sports Canada… did you hear it’s the oldest rivalry in sports because it was mentioned once or twice!
The West Indies almost slipped up on the banana skin that was PNG, normally a minnow upset is what we want but the Windies losing early would have been disastrous for the tournament annnnd
Namibia outlasted Oman in a Super Over after a low scoring but incredibly entertaining thriller this afternoon

Welcome back to the Maximum Cricket Podcast, this is your T20 World Cup Pre Show. We are going to rank all 20 teams…

but not on their cricketing ability cause that’s boring. Let’s be honest it’s going to be the big 3 yet again, Australia, India and England in some order are your contenders and everyone else is playing catch up.

But the kits?! Well that’s an even playing field!



So I’ve split up the 20 teams into 4 tiers, the tailenders, which are nothing short of dreadful. the lower order, which are kits that aren’t great but have some redeemable features. the middle order, which are mostly top kits but are just missing that special something. and the top order which is the cream of the crop.

Today’s episode is one of the greatest finishes to any cricket match, let alone a t20 match. Very rarely can you describe a game of cricket with just one sentence, the 2019 World Cup is “the barest of margins” is one other I can think of. 

This weeks episode is simply “Remember the Name”*



That’s right it’s the 2016 World Cup Final between England and West Indies where DJ Bravos song “Champion” got some use as the West Indies became the First Nation to win a t20 World Cup twice beating England in crazy circumstances where Karlos Braitwaite hit Ben Stokes for 4 x 6s in a row in the final over to cap off a memorable game.



Today is the 5th and final installment of “The 5 most impactful games of T20 International Cricket”. 

In a bid to gain some momentum and fizz for the t20 World Cup that starts in June, we have re watched and reviewed the following classic matches:


The 2nd T20 between Australia and NZ in 2010 where Brendon McCullum made the scoop famous
The World Cup group stage game between India and Pakistan in front of 90,000 fans at the MCG in 2022
The first World Cup final between India and Pakistan in 2007 where the IPL was unofficially launched
The very first t20 international between Australia and NZ in 2005 which launched the platform for the what the game looks like today.

This week it’s perhaps the most important game of T20 Cricket of all time, for reasons we will get to very shortly.

The year was 2007, the 1st T20 World Cup Final between old foes India and Pakistan.

India batted first and made 157/5 off their 20.
- Gautam Gambhir made 75 off 54
- Rohit Sharma 30* off 16 at the death
- Umar Gul took 3 for 28 off 4

In reply Pakistan fell 5 runs short making 152 all out with 3 balls to spare
