    REPUBLISH Buying Back Your Time

    REPUBLISH Buying Back Your Time

In this episode of The Savvy Dentist podcast, Dr. Jesse Green discusses the most precious resource we have … our time.

When it comes to running a business, one of the most common things that dentists say is that they want to make more money. And then once they're making ‘more’ money, then their desire turns to them having more time in their life, with more enjoyment, meaning and satisfaction.

How do we get the balance right?

If you are feeling burned and stressed out, then this is the episode you need to listen to.

[4:20] - Re-engineer your business and create a business that you love.
[5:38] - Who to hire, and when!
[6:22] - Internal training vs. external training. The pros and cons. Which works best and creates the most profit.
[15:23] - If you want to free up your clinical time, hire an associate dentist, or a dental hygienist or therapist.
[18:08] - How to continue to grow your revenue within your practice.

    REPUBLISH: What's working now?

    REPUBLISH: What's working now?

In this episode of The Savvy Dentist podcast, Dr. Jesse Green discusses what is working now in the current market conditions, to fill the white space in your appointment book.

White spaces impact your business revenue, which in turn creates a downturn in your cash flow and profits. So it’s important to identify some of the root causes and Dr. Jesse offers some strategies and tactics for you to help fix this problem should you have it in your practice.

As practice owners it's important for us to understand why cancellations occur and what the mindset of our patients may have.

Dr. Jesse explains how you can elevate the value of dentistry in the mind of the patient by creating a compelling reason to return.

REPUBLISH: Episode 2 with Nauv Kashyap

REPUBLISH: Episode 2 with Nauv Kashyap

It's hard to believe, but the Savvy Dentist Podcast has now surpassed 450 episodes!

When I started this journey all those years ago, I never could have imagined how far we'd come.

To honour this milestone, I've decided to revisit some of my most memorable conversations - and what better place to start than with Nauv Kashyap?

Nauv was the second guest I ever had on the podcast (it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come with sound quality!), and his insights on business, risk-taking, and the parallels between poker and practice ownership have stuck with me to this day.

In this classic episode, Nauv shares:

The importance of playing to your strengths and outsourcing your weaknesses as a practice owner
How delegating early on allowed him to focus on strategic growth (and how it led to him opening 11 practices)
Why taking calculated risks is essential for success (and how to minimise your exposure when taking leaps)
The surprising parallels between poker and business negotiation (and how to tell when someone is bluffing)
Why being patient and selective is the key to capitalising on the right opportunities (in poker and in practice)

This Episode challenges assumptions about what it means to be a practice owner and gaves a whole new perspective on managing risk and growth.

If you're feeling stuck, stagnant, or uncertain about your next move, this nostalgic episode will set you right.

The 6 Step Recruitment Process every practice needs - Jackie Strachan

The 6 Step Recruitment Process every practice needs - Jackie Strachan

In this episode of The Savvy Dentist Podcast, Dr. Jesse Green is joined by HR specialist, Jackie Strachan from HR Tactics.

Jackie’s passion for creating better Human Resources outcomes stems from over 20 years’ experience in the field and a drive for finding innovative solutions.

Recruiting the ‘right’ people, and keeping the right people is an ongoing challenge we all face when running any size business.

If you do not have a recruitment process, then this episode is going to help you develop one, plus specifically guide you through how to advertise to recruit great people for your practice.

The goal is to not be at the whim of people leaving your practice, where you have to recruit in a knee jerk manner. This always results in productivity headaches because when someone leaves you've got to spend time recruiting to get people on board and it takes time to train them and get them up to speed. Then if that first person that you've hired doesn't work out, you're back to square one.

Jackie’s HR career has seen her hold both operational and strategic HR management roles across a vast array of industry sectors including retail, financial services, child protection, professional services, dental, state emergency services, Department of Justice, agency recruitment and IT.

Jackie is a Certified Professional Member of the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI), holds an MBA from QUT, a Cert IV in Training & Assessment, and accreditation as a facilitator of ‘Extended Disc’ Psychometric Employee Profiling.

[4:14] - The most common challenges dental practices face in regard to the recruitment process.
[10:36] - Your recruitment process gives you the opportunity to sell your business to find the right applicant.
[17:40] - How to write a great recruitment ad for your practice.
[20:36] - How to create your recruitment process.
[27:17] - How should your onboarding process align with your recruitment process?
[29:34] - What ‘Day 1’ should look like for your new recruit.
[35:22] - What your new recruit should be thinking at the end of their first week. HR peeps call it ‘The Employee Experience’.
[44:25] - A wrap up of the 6 steps to your recruitment process.

A Tactical Guide to Growing Your Practice

A Tactical Guide to Growing Your Practice

Since 2016, the concept of The Savvy Dentist Podcast was to share the best thinking, the best ideas and the best practices from other industries, and bring them back to dentists so that you can adopt them for your own. So you can create the practice and the life that you ultimately want to create.

Thank you to each of you who have tuned in over the last eight years, whether you're a regular listener or a sometimes listener, we really appreciate you.

Business is becoming more competitive, the marketplace is becoming more sophisticated and therefore the practice management techniques that were prevalent in the early 2000s, no longer apply today. As practice owners today, we need to have more advanced thinking than we've ever needed in the past.
If you want to have a business that you love, that you get to run, then we need to jettison that old thinking and we need to embrace new thinking.

In this episode of The Savvy Dentist Podcast Dr. Jesse Green shares some fresh current day tactical small business lessons he has learnt over many decades in business to help you build a viable and profitable practice.
