    Prayer Dependent

    Prayer Dependent

    Mark 8:22-25
Over the past couple of weeks, in our sermon series, we have been getting practical. This morning we turn to another practical and indispensable action in doing the work of fishing for men—embracing our total dependence on prayer. Fishers of Men embrace their dependence on prayer because of our absolute inability to open spiritually blind eyes. Jesus has this power physically proving He has the power spiritually. Thus we lean on Jesus in prayer as we go fishing for men.

    Spirit-Led And Bible-Fed

    Spirit-Led And Bible-Fed

    Acts 8:26-40
Fishers of men are Spirit-led and Bible-fed. That’s what we learn from Philip the evangelist in Acts 8. He serves us by giving practical examples of how to do the work of an evangelist. He walks in step with the Spirit’s leading and when the Spirit leads him to bear witness about Jesus this Bible-fed man knows how open his Bible and point to Jesus.

    Fearless Fishers Of Men

    Fearless Fishers Of Men

    Mark 6:7-13
When it comes to making disciples, the big truths involved with this call make sense for many of us. The struggle we can have though is in knowing how to apply these big truths in everyday life. Like in all areas of life we need help in practical application—and that’s where we start with this sermon. This message rounds the corner in the sermon series to start getting practical. With this message we turn to the very practical matter of fear and how a fearful heart can paralyze us as fishers of men. From Mark 6 we see how the truths/encouragement that Jesus gave to the twelve can help fearful followers of Jesus become fearless fishers of men by relying on Jesus.

    Hell Is Real

    Hell Is Real

    Luke 16:19-31
If you listen to the language of our culture, it’s easy to draw the conclusion that our culture has a low view of Hell. For many ‘hell’ is nothing more than a filler word in a sentence. For some, ‘hell’ is a place where really bad people go when they die and definitely not a place for good people like them. For others, the concept of ‘hell’ is comical, or repulsive, or altogether non-existent. So if all of this is true, then why even talk about Hell? Why not avoid the topic and avoid the offense? We talk about Hell because Hell is real. We talk about Hell because Jesus talked about the existence and experience of Hell. We talk about Hell because, according to Jesus, the destination of those who do not “repent and believe in the gospel” is to an eternal, irreversible, conscious torment, separated from God in Hell. And this reality has great impacts on why we ask the question—Who’s Your One? Main Idea—Followers of Jesus prioritize the importance of one because Hell is real.

    The Importance Of One

    The Importance Of One

    Luke 15 & 19

    Followers And Fishers

    Followers And Fishers

    Mark 1:14-20
Believing the gospel of God makes me a follower of Jesus who fishes for men. This is what we see when we turn to these verses in Mark. This truth helps us launch our sermon series titled—Who’s Your One?—because if we are going to seek after lostness like Jesus then we can do by recognizing that we all have at least one lost person in our lives. Individually in our homes, neighborhoods, and work or collectively as a Jesus Family, a common denominator for both is lostness. And if the importance of one lost sinner is to move us like it did Jesus then we should look to Jesus and start with what’s most important. And what’s most important is that we first believe the gospel of God and move forward from there.
