    A Father’s Role | The Well Podcast S1E11

In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil and Pastor Chad are joined by Rob and Olivia Poettgen for a special Father’s Day episode.

When a religion distorts the genuine Gospel, it diminishes the power of Jesus's finished work. The evidence of being born again is that Jesus has changed us, and the mark of maturity is living in obedience to Jesus. A father’s role is to be the spiritual leader for his family by modeling a life of obedience.

Rob shares his testimony of being born and raised Catholic and how that religion impacted his view of God. When he and his wife married, they planned to continue practicing that religion. However, when they moved to Texas, they attended a Baptist church where they heard the Gospel, and each of them started a personal relationship with Jesus.

Rob’s life was radically changed again when he had a daughter. He realized that his life was not his own, and parenthood has grown and changed him in many ways over the last 20 years. He shares some practical ways fathers can be spiritual leaders in their homes and reminds them that you can only give away what God has given you.

Join Pastor Phil and Pastor Chad as they celebrate a father’s role in the family and discuss how salvation is a gift we receive, not a reward we have to earn.

How Do I Grow in Spiritual Maturity? | The Well Podcast S1E10

How Do I Grow in Spiritual Maturity? | The Well Podcast S1E10

In this episode of The Well Podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman discuss how believers can grow in spiritual maturity.

Many Christians are still in infancy spiritually, even after walking with and following Jesus for years. Often, believers think that because they know a lot, they’ve grown a lot. However, a disciple is someone who walks obediently to God, not somebody who’s simply studying deeper theology.

To stay on the path of godliness and spiritual maturity, you must clothe yourself with God’s Word. You cannot grow up to look more like the Son of God if you’re not deeply rooted in the Word of God.

Many people think they need to attend another sermon, listen to another podcast, or read another book of the Bible to grow in spiritual maturity. However, you grow in spiritual maturity by living in obedience to Jesus. Spiritual maturity is when you die to yourself, deny your desires, and give yourself up to Jesus.

God’s love language is obedience. We show Him love when we are obedient to His commandments. Maturity is marked by the distance between God telling you to do something and you being obedient to do it. You’re never beyond closing this gap.

Learn about the identifying marks of spiritual maturity in a believer’s life and follow along as Pastor Chad shares a prayer format for believers who want to grow in spiritual maturity.

The Word of God Is Living and Powerful | The Well Podcast S1E9

The Word of God Is Living and Powerful | The Well Podcast S1E9

In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman talk about how the Word of God is living and powerful in believers’ lives.

Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word of God is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword. His Word is true, trustworthy, and eternal.

The enemy doesn’t want us to use God’s Word to fight temptation. He wants us to depend on others for revelations from God so that we never discover its power in our lives. But God has given us the Bible, the sword of the spirit and one of our defenses against the enemy.

The Bible is meant to be studied. God gave us the Bible to be understood. He wants us to dig in, ask questions, seek Him, and be curious about His Word and ways. That’s why He chose to reveal Himself to us through His Word.

When you read the Word of God, ask yourself these 3 questions:

    What happened?

    What is God teaching?

What does it mean for my life today?

Join us as we learn how the Word of God is a living and powerful tool for believers to study, understand, and apply to their lives!

What Is the Purpose of the Sabbath? | The Well Podcast S1E8

What Is the Purpose of the Sabbath? | The Well Podcast S1E8

In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman discuss the purpose of the Sabbath for believers.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint. To stay in the race and finish strong, believers must get in the rhythm of having a weekly Sabbath.

The purpose of the Sabbath is to intentionally rest and recharge your soul. We’re not commanded to keep a day as the Sabbath to earn righteousness before God like the ancient Israelites. However, we practice the Sabbath to enjoy the abundant life Jesus offers us.

To Sabbath doesn’t mean you’re not working; it means you find rest in your work. The Sabbath was meant to be a gift, not something of bondage and hardship.

In Genesis, we see that God rested and reflected on His work. He did this to establish a pattern and set an example for His people.

Questions to consider as you explore the purpose of the Sabbath:

What things help you connect with God?

    What feeds your soul?

    What helps you to rest?

Do you believe that God wants to offer rest to your soul? Belief leads to doing. We must believe that Jesus is our rest, but we must also rest physically. Dive into the purpose of the Sabbath and discover the benefits of finding rest and peace in Jesus!

What Is God’s Will for My Life? | The Well Podcast S1E7

What Is God’s Will for My Life? | The Well Podcast S1E7

In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Jeremy, and host Les Norman tackle the question, “What is God’s will for my life?”

Have you ever wondered what God’s will is for your life? God’s will is made known through His Word. His plan will differ for each person, but His will can be found in His Word. He has commissioned us to live sent and share the gospel with those around us.

Every believer is called to ministry, but some people do it vocationally while others live on mission in their careers and daily lives. Before you consider a calling to ministry, you should think about where you are ministering and who you minister to in your daily life.

You will never discover God's will for your life if you do not study His Word. God’s will is for us to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We are to take the gospel to the ends of the earth and fulfill the Great Commission found in Matthew 28.

Only two things will last forever: the Word of God and the souls of men. How are you taking the Word of God and investing it in the souls of men?

The 3 Elements of Saving Faith | The Well Podcast S1E6

The 3 Elements of Saving Faith | The Well Podcast S1E6

In this episode of The Well podcast, Pastor Phil, Pastor Chad, and host Les Norman talk about the elements of saving faith.

In Hebrews 3, the author warns the ancient Hebrews not to doubt Jesus’ sufficiency. He reminds them of the Israelites who escaped captivity from Egypt. They had enough faith to get out of Egypt but not enough to enter the Promised Land!

Although God constantly provided for them, the Israelites lacked the three elements of saving faith. They complained bitterly, doubted God’s promise, and disobeyed His commands. The Ancient Hebrews would have known this account well, and the illustration in Hebrews 3 would have been familiar to them.

The call is not to harden your heart when God has delivered you from the law's condemnation. How do you do this? Ask for forgiveness for the apathy and complacency that consumes your faith.

The 3 Elements of Saving Faith:

    Admit your disbelief and disobedience.

Repent and be honest with God.

Seek a community that will speak truth into your life.

Faith is more than a feeling. It is obedience in motion. Saving faith in Jesus Christ will endure through tribulation, discouragement, and heartache.

Do you believe that God will perform what He promised?
