    Episode 99: Brand Aura

    Episode 99: Brand Aura

This episode is all about brand aura, the energy that your brand radiates—or what we might call, its glow. Brand aura also encompasses how that energy is perceived by your audience—their core reaction or feeling when experiencing it.
Brand aura is about the images and feelings that a brand provokes. It calls to a consumer’s self-identity, their aspiration, and their need to belong.
Join me as I discuss the auras of some of my favorite brands and share five steps you can take to glow-up the aura of your brand!

Episode 97: The Number 1 Way to Cut Through the Noise

Episode 97: The Number 1 Way to Cut Through the Noise

In this episode, I share how indulging in some Sunday scrolling on social media led me to the realization that many small business owners are getting really bad advice about how to market online. In particular, there are two philosophies that seem to be gaining traction.
The first is that entrepreneurs should “always be selling.” As a professional communicator with more than three decades of experience, I can promise you, this philosophy will hurt any business that adapts it.
The second philosophy that worries me is the copied content trend. Tons of entrepreneurs are literally copying other entrepreneurs' content. From social posts to sales pages, it’s shocking, disrespectful, and illegal.
I believe people follow these trends because they think it will help them stand out and attract new customers, but the opposite is true. Tune in as I share what to do instead and tell you the number one thing you can do to cut through the noise in your market and become the leader you want to be!

Key Points: When a business is always selling, it’s transactional. People view that business as a commodity and will typically only buy based on price because they’re not loyal.
Copying someone else’s work is always a bad move. It’s wrong to steal from someone else and their loyal followers will inevitably call you out for it.
These two examples demonstrate extremely big mistakes I see in marketing. The solution, however, is the same for both: focus on building your brand.
Businesses that build strong brands, from identity to experience, choose long-term value over short-term gain.

Episode 95: Redesigning Learning & Development with Beth Salyers

Episode 95: Redesigning Learning & Development with Beth Salyers

Beth Salyers, Ph.D., is Founder and CEO of Custom Learning Atelier, an alternative learning and development company for impact-driven leaders, knowledge workers, artists and their organizations. Like Prosper for Purpose, her company is a Certified B Corporation, using business as a force for good.
In this episode, I ask Beth about her role as a learning (re)designer of her field. Beth operates from a deep understanding that every experience, encounter, piece of content and structure either disrupts or reinforces the habitual. While this reality is inherently overwhelming, it also provides the abundance of variables needed to (re)design an equitable, meaningful and interconnected change in our world.
For over 20 years, Beth and her company have used neuroscience, experience design, implementation science and the social contexts of teaching and learning to educate, design and facilitate meaningful learning journeys for humans at work. Beth is Ohio born, North Carolina raised, and currently living and thriving in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Key Points We are all programmed or conditioned to relate to, use, and engage with learning in a certain way. Unfortunately, this way does not align with values of equity, inclusivity, stakeholder economy, human potential, and using business as a force for good.
CLA exists to help folks unlearn these conditionalities and redesign learning within their organization and with their external stakeholders in order to uncover the latent potential we have as humans to make the world a better place for humans and the planet.

Episode 94: Business as a Force for Good

Episode 94: Business as a Force for Good

What if there were a way to measure a company’s entire social and environmental impact?
Well, there is! It’s called the “B Impact Assessment,” and it’s offered by the nonprofit, B Lab.
Since March is B Corp Month, I devote this episode of Brand for Good to discussing the ongoing paradigm shift in the business world and how the triple bottom line philosophy of “people, planet and profit” is here to stay. I also talk about how you can take steps to use business as a force for good with or without becoming a certified B Corp.

Key Points: The concept of "business as a force for good" advocates for businesses to incorporate ethical practices, social responsibility, and sustainable initiatives.
The nonprofit B Lab was founded in 2006 in the United States by three friends who shared a vision to make business a force for good.
The first B Corps were certified in 2007; Prosper for Purpose became certified in 2016.
Anyone can use the free B Corp assessment tool to measure their impact and identify next steps.
