Video : A Conversation with ZAYRA POLA + New Album "Te Va Gustar‪"‬ The Xtreme BPM

    • Music

" I was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, on a November night. My family tells me that my love for percussion was eminent very early on when I was just 1 year old when out of nowhere I started to say one of my first words “Tiki Tum Tiki Tum” while moving my body imitating the bongo player.

As I grew, I was devoted to learning how to play timbales, so after so many years of insisting on my father, he decided to put in private lessons at Harmony School. Luis Perico Ortiz conducted an ear training test on me, and after the test, he showed me the drums and convinced us that I should study the drums because it was a more complete instrument, and off I went.

When it was time to decide what I was going to focus on as a career, at first I wanted to study communication because I have always found radio communication magnificent, but again destiny would bring me back to music, so I went to the Conservatory Of Music of Puerto Rico up until Berklee College of Music awarded me with a full ride to complete my bachelor’s.

At Berklee, I had the honor to share the stage, record, and collaborate with so many amazing artists from all over the world and Grammy winners such as Bill Whelan, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Javier Limon. I also had the pleasure to be part of the music video of Alejandro Sanz’s “La Musica no Se Toca”.

Throughout these many years of stage sharing, I have had the blessing and honor to perform with re-known artists such as Gilberto Santarosa, Luis Enrique, Larry Harlow, Cheo Feliciano, Andy Montanez, Pedro Capo, Giovanny Hidalgo, Vico C, Annie Lennox, Willie Nelson, and several others.

But now it’s time for me to take the front of the stage and be the one making you all move on the dance floor. In this first album, you will be able to learn how all of these many years of my musical journey have inspired me to share who I am. I took all of the learnings from my mentors and mixed it with all of the knowledge that I gained and combined with imagining you dancing during my concerts and that is why I know that “You will Like it”(Te Va Gustar).
