Beyond The Block Brother Jones and Brother Knox

Brother Jones and Brother Knox describe themselves as staunch advocates for the theology and harsh critics of the culture when it comes to Mormonism. A black life-long member and queer convert respectively, they bring a less heard perspective to the notoriously white and heteronormative faith. They feel their desire for justice, love, and salvation for all people, regardless of color, sex, orientation, and other identities is not only consistent with the message of Christ, but *is* the message of Christ. In that spirit, they share their thoughtful, honest, and occasionally raw and humorous take on Mormonism in an effort to shift the culture of Mormonism more into alignment with the theology of Mormonism.

Do longer episodes!
Love you guys and feel so enlightened after every episode. Please do longer episodes! I’m sad every time you say you have more to say but the time has run out. I’ll be here for every minute you go over!
I really wanted to love this podcast…
I truly do want to have more love and inclusion in my life. My older brother is lgbtq+ and I love him. My heart is heavy when I realize how he suffered and struggled during his adolescent and young adult life while being a member of a Christian church. He had loved Jesus with his whole heart (he has chosen to be agnostic at time in his life). I love how kind my brother is and how he inspires me to be more giving. So I wanted to listen to this podcast with an open mind and heart so I could know how minister to my lgbtq brother. (Well and all of my lgbtq brothers and sisters on earth)
But I could only feel good about this podcast about half of the time. I love the scriptures. And half of the time, during each podcast episode-I’ve listened to about 10 episodes, it feels dark for me to hear the word of God twisted and contorted into something that doesn’t feel good anymore. The word of God has often brought peace and clarity to me. But to hear the scriptures taught in the way that these two Brothers teach it, brings me confusion, uneasiness, and darkness.
So, as much as I wanted to love it, I realize that this podcast is just not for everyone—including myself.
