Effective leadership centers itself around influence because leadership isn't just about you, it's about other people and the relationships you build with them. Individual ability on its own isn’t enough to sustain a thriving business. A leader must provide the motivation required to achieve shared goals and mutual success – in the process unlocking levels of greatness that we might never have dreamed to be possible.Your ability to influence relies on your skill at introducing and driving critical conversation. In order to effect the change you seek, your vision has to be effectively shared and translated to your employees, peers, and partners, and so you need to become a master of conversation. That’s why I’ve joined forces with (Dale Laughlin/ Rhonda York) my fellow certified Conversational Intelligence®, Executive, Team and Life Coach, to create our brand-new podcast series, Conversations for FearLESS Leaders. We define a FearLESS leader as one who recognizes the fears that may be holding them back and is able to move beyond them to have the kinds of necessary, intentional conversations that make things happen. In each episode of our podcast we’ll explore the scary situations that can inhibit your ability to perform and use our experience to help you navigate through those fears to the success you deserve. So get comfortable, take a listen, and join the conversation at http://bit.ly/cfl-podcast- because we can do more when we fear less!#leadership #leadershipcoaching #executivecoaching #conversationalintelligence #difficultconversations #conversationsforfearlessleaders #facingfears

🎧  EP-10 Triggers that Impact our Conversations

What triggers us? And, how 'response-able' are we when we get triggered? A trigger is a stimulus to which we react. It may originate in the external environment – in the things people say and do, the situations that arise, or the circumstances we find ourselves in. Also, a trigger can arise internally with a limiting belief or a false assumption. What triggers make us do, is to lose control. They get the better of us. In this podcast we explore common triggers – what they are and where they come from. We delve, too, into the neurochemistry that underlies the triggering of fear and the shift to trust. We discuss what leaders can do to ‘catch’ the trigger, in the moment, before it takes control. They can choose, instead of reacting, to become ‘response-able’. To select their words more carefully and their non-verbal more mindfully. As they do, they empower themselves to shift out of their undesirable, fear-triggered behaviors and regain a mindset of trust and calm. Their conversation shifts as well to one that encourages others to open up, to share and to partner. As with all behavior changes, it’s easier said than done. The fact, though, is that it’s possible! We know what our behavioral goals are. We know, too, the triggers that tend to thwart our best efforts. Determine to take control – start with one and build from there. Response-ability is your choice! Don’t let your triggers outsmart you!
