Needless to say, it is a spin-off prequel to the big bang theory.

오늘은 영 쉘던이라는 시트콤에서 클립 몇개를 듣고 재밌는 표현 몇가지들을 배워보겠습니다.
물론 이 시트콤이 빅뱅이론의 프리퀄 스핀 오프라는 말은 안해도 되겠죠?

뭐라고 했죠? ____ 여기서 중요한 표현은 Do my bidding ….do my bidding…to do someone’s bidding 이란 말은
To do what someone else wants or has requested, to the point of servitude.

즉 누가 시키는 대로 하다 이런 말입니다.

Am I expected to do your bidding whenever you ask?
네가 부탁할 때마다 내가 네 말을 들어줘야 돼?

You’re not gonna impress me..너는 나한테 감명을 주지 않을거야...즉 내가 너한테 반하지 않아..

Throw money around..돈을 뿌린다라는 말이죠? 즉 돈자랑을 한다는 말이죠..

즉 you’re not gonna impress me by throwing money around 란 말은 니가 돈자랑을 한다고 내가 반할것 같아? 이말입니다.

때때로 돈을 허투루 쓰고 다닐때도 이 말을 씁니다.
Tom lost his job, but still seems to have plenty of money to throw around.
탐은 실직을 했는데도 돈을 뿌리고 다니는 모양이네…

ㅎㅎㅎㅎ 이 말이 무슨 뜻인지 설명 하기전에 배경을 설명할게요.
쉘던이 학교에서 하는 과학경진대회 science fair 에서 1등을 받지 못해서 화를 내면서 이렇게 말을 한겁니다.

자 여기서 중요한 말은 mediocrity...이게 무슨 말인지 잘 모르시는 분들도 많으실것 같은데요..mediocre 보통밖에 되지 않는 이란
형용사 mediocre 의 명사형 mediocrity..평범함 이란 뜻입니다.

쉘던은 천재라서 평균의 high school의 아이들이 하는 모든것이 전부 다 자신의 excellence 와는 비교가 되겠죠..그래서 이렇게 소리칩니다.
평범함을 찬양하고 있어요 여러분들은!

쉘던..어릴때나 어른이나..살짝 annoying 한건 마찬가지인것 같네요 ㅎㅎㅎ
