We’ve said it before- our upper elementary students are COMPLETELY different than their lower grade counterparts. We almost have to become a completely different person when we teach 4th-6th graders. What does that look like for us? What are we working on to engage them?

Why are upper graders so different?
What happens that makes them so self conscious- puberty, afraid of friends, ego-centric, social media, higher rates of anxiety
BUT they are still little kids
What no longer works- they will NOT be treated like little kids (unless it’s on their terms- requesting old activities in 5th grade with super passes)
OMG they don’t stop talking
Why centers?
What does that look like?
How to form groups- you get to choose 1 partner, I choose the rest of the group
