Dahrendorf Symposium London School of Economics and Political Science

The five international and interdisciplinary working groups, whose chairs are located at the academic partner institutions, have started preparing the content for the Dahrendorf Symposium 2013 which will bring into focus the various aspects of European perspectives on the leading question "How to prevent dangerous climate change?". They will also debate the question "What are policy innovations that would contribute to make Europe more relevant on the global stage?"

He also holds a chair of Sociology at Heidelberg University and serves as Academic Director of the Center for Social Investment. From 2001 to 2009 he was Professor of Public Policy and Social Welfare at UCLA's School of Public Affairs and Centennial Professor at the London School of Economics. Professor Anheier founded and directed the Centre for Civil Society at the LSE and the Center for Civil Society at UCLA. Before embarking on an academic career, he served as social affairs officer to the United Nations. He is currently researching the nexus between globalisation, civil society, and culture and is interested in policy analysis and methodological questions. Contributor(s): Arne Westad | Dahrendorf Academic Co-Director. Odd Arne Westad is Professor of International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and an expert on the Cold War and on contemporary international affairs. He co-directs LSE Ideas, the LSE's new centre for international affairs, is an editor of the journal Cold War History and co-editor of the forthcoming three-volume Cambridge History of the Cold War. His book The Global Cold War won the Bancroft Prize for 2006. Born in Norway in 1960, Arne Westad studied at the University of Oslo and did his graduate work at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. During the 1980s he worked for several international aid agencies in Southern Africa and in Pakistan. He joined LSE in 1998, after serving for six years as Director of Research at the Norwegian Nobel Institute. 'Changing the European debate: Focus on Climate Change. Contributor(s): Felix Creutzig | Felix Creutzig is the Chair of the Working Group on Infrastructure and Climate Change at the Dahrendorf Symposium 2013. Felix is principal investigator of the MCC Land Use, Infrastructures, and Transport
group. His research focuses on the low-carbon urban infrastructures, land rent and
