    About our Speaker:

    David Papineau is a Professor of Philosophy of Science at King’s College London and a Professor at the Graduate Centre of the City University of New York. He was the President of the British Society for Philosophy of Science from 1993-95, President of the Mind Association in 2009, and President of the Aristotelian Society in 2014. Professor Papineau has written widely on epistemology, metaphysics, and the philosophy of science and mind. He has also written numerous books, the latest of which, titled “Knowing the Score”, explores a number of ways in which sporting issues cast light on long-standing philosophical problems.

    About our speaker:

    Professor Jonathan Birch is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the London School of Economics and Principal Investigator on the Foundations of Animal Sentience Project, which was awarded a prestigious European Research Council Starting Grant to the value of 1.5 million euros. In addition to his interest in animal sentience, cognition and welfare, he also has a longstanding interest in the evolution of altruism and social behaviour. His first book, “The Philosophy of Social Evolution”, was published by Oxford University Press in 2017.

    Professor Laurenz Hudetz is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method at the London School of Economics. His research specializes in philosophy of science, logic and philosophy of physics. His interests also include applications of logic and category theory to understanding the structure of scientific theories, as well as mathematical logic, ontology and the philosophy of mathematics.

    Alex Voorhoeve is a Professor of Philosophy at the London School of Economics, and a part-time Visiting Professor of Ethics and Economics at Erasmus University, Rotterdam. His work deals with the theory and practice of distributive justice (especially as it relates to health), as well as rational choice theory and moral psychology. He is the author of the book Conversations on Ethics. Most recently, he co-authored a policy brief for T20, a think tank accompanying this year’s G20 summit, titled “Assessing the Well-being Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Three Policy Types: Suppression, Control, and Uncontrolled Spread.”
