Taize Worship June 2020 Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Introduction:
We gather now to quiet our minds and still our souls through song, prayer, and meditation.  I invite you to sit in a comfortable position and silence any distractions. You may wish to dim the lights and light a candle. After each hymn, prayer, and reading there will be a time of silence for meditation. May you rest in God and know God's presence within you.
Opening Hymn:
Come and fill Our Hearts
Come and fill our hearts with your peace.
You alone, O Lord, are holy.
Come and fill our hearts with your peace,
Alleluia

Scripture Reading
John 1:19-27 New International Version (NIV)
John the Baptist Denies Being the Messiah
Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was.  He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”
They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
He answered, “No.”
Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”[b]
Now the Pharisees who had been sent questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
“I baptize with[c] water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

Silent Meditation

Prayers
O Lord Hear My Prayer

O Lord hear my prayer,
O Lord hear my prayer.
When I call, answer me.
O Lord hear my prayer,
O Lord hear my prayer.
Come and listen to me.

Silent Meditation

Closing Prayer
Jesus our joy, when we realize that you love us, something in us is soothed and even transformed. We ask you: what do you want from us? And by the Holy Spirit you reply: let nothing trouble you, I am praying in you, dare to give your life. Amen.

Closing Hymn
Give to us your peace

Give to us your peace, O Jesus Christ

Verses sung by cantor:
I will hear what the Lord has to say,
A voice that speaks of peace,
Peace for God’s people and friends,
and those who turn to God in their hearts

Christ is our peace,
making us one.
In his own person
he destroyed hostility.
He came and preached
the good news of peace.
