    You Do You. Period!

    You Do You. Period!

In this episode, Eli Weinstein interviews Rachel Sievers, a mental health professional, about relationships, boundaries, and authenticity. They discuss codependency and the distinction between codependency and caring for others. Rachel explains that codependency often stems from childhood experiences where showing up as oneself was not accepted or valued. She emphasizes the importance of reparenting oneself and learning to listen to one's own thoughts, emotions, and needs. They also explore the challenges of being authentic in relationships and the fear of disconnection. Rachel encourages listeners to trust that being true to themselves is the right path, even if it means losing relationships that don't accept them. Tune in to learn how self-acceptance can lead to a more fulfilling and courageous life.

    Takeaways

Codependency often stems from childhood experiences where showing up as oneself was not accepted or valued.
Reparenting involves talking to oneself in a supportive and validating way and acknowledging one's thoughts, emotions, and needs.
Being authentic in relationships can be challenging, but it is important to trust that the right people will accept and appreciate one's true self.
Being true to oneself may lead to the loss of relationships that don't accept or align with one's authentic self, but it also opens the door to new connections with people who do.
Trusting in a higher power or greater energy can provide guidance and support in the journey of self-discovery and authenticity.

Rachel Sievers is a retired psychotherapist and life coach with a master's degree of science in psychology. She's logged over ten thousand hours practicing psychotherapy. In addition to her podcast, The Answer to Everything, she's developed a workbook, Talk To Me, and an online anxiety course, Anxiety-Free in 21 Days, as well as running an expanded private practice in California.

She began her career working with families of foster and adopted children. Since then, she's worked in private practice using Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Affirmative, and Gestalt therapy. She's been trained in the Gottman Method, and in Somatic Experiencing to help her clients effectively heal from trauma symptoms. Now, she works as a counselor and life coach in private practice using her experience as a psychotherapist in combination with action-based methods to fit the needs of her clients best.

Rachel doesn't have "bad days" at work. She loves her job, and is honored and each time someone allows her to walk alongside them on their journey.
